Kitsu: A Tale of Tails Part 10
Sneaking out of her new place with her xaela friend at night Bryte made her way back to her own apartment. It’d been a while since she had seen her father and figured a visit was due. Walking inside she looks around and finds her father standing near a table preparing his tea. He turned to look at her and gave a soft welcoming smile.
“Hello, finally decide to come home?” He chirped teasingly, giving her a playful smile before returning his attention to the tea. She walks in and throws herself onto her work station, pulling a locked jewelry case from the shelf in front and bringing them in front of her before answering. “I’ve been resting, I figure you would appreciate that.” She said blankly without looking at Zeke.
“I know, and I did. I told you you work too much.” He gives her a glance but knew she wouldn’t look at him. She had a habit of focusing too much on the task at hand. “Who was your friend? A new girlfriend?” He again teased, a cheerful pitch to his voice for once.
“No.” She snapped back before he got any ideas. “I’m done with that kind of thing I think.” She leaned back in the chair and sighed, throwing her hands over her eyes and leaning her head over the chair. Zeke turned his head, curious about her behavior.
After a few moments she resumes her normal posture and thinks a few moments, pulling a key from her pocket and opening the jewelry case, which didn’t have jewels inside but a potion bottle. The liquid in the vial was unbelievably pale; it had a soft humming glow to it and it almost sparkled inside due to its ingredients. Her father knew what was inside, so didn’t question her taking the cork from the top and throwing the mixture back to down the entire thing in a few big gulps.
She sighed with a pained expression; Smacking her lips at the awful taste as she carefully placed the bottle back inside the case. Her eyes glowed subtly and her body seemingly began steaming with a soft, gray aura. She pulled one of her sleeves up and watched as her natural healing repaired the burns on her arms almost immediately before her eyes. She sighs, throwing her hands in her lap, closing her eyes.
They sat in silence a while. Zeke knew he hit a nerve with his teasing. She was still heartbroken, and that wasn’t something she could fix with a potion, or magic; Despite her want for such a thing.
Without her asking, he pours her a cup of tea and brings the cup over on a small plate, placing it in front of her with a soft, reassuring smile before returning to his seat to enjoy his tea.
He was learning about her slowly, but he almost had no influence in the way she was now that the world had made her.
