SPOILERS FOR CHAINSAW MAN 225
Something I love about the Darkness Devil is just how much it sells how terrifying life in Hell is for the Devils. The sheer INSTANT everyone in the department store ends up in Hell, Quanxi's ladies start freaking out because the Primordial Devils are ALL ALREADY WATCHING. Makima is so dangerous on Earth because she has a similar effect: watching everyone, and making sure nothing exists without her consent. But in Hell, we see that what would be a nightmarish situation on Earth is just everyday existence for the Devils, and we can understand just how our world would seem a veritable paradise to them, absent of the creatures embodying the base fears of every individual alive, all-encompassing and endless. When Makima ventures down into Hell, it's a shock that she's even able to touch Darkness, especially make it BLEED, but even still she has to get everyone out of there ASAP because it's almost an even fight between the two figures. Darkness is absence, the fear of nothingness itself, and in a world where creatures are defined by the concepts humans devise and interact with, it is a god among men.
