Anya chuckled. “I don’t blame you, I blame your husband. He knows exactly in what situation this brings me and he did it anyway.”

“He didn’t think about you.”

“Of course not. He never does.” That was just how Garrett was.

“Now that’s just rude”, Garrett answered from the floor, where he had been typing on his phone for the past hour.

“That’s the truth”, Anya replied coldly. “I am the last person you think about. Always. You just do what you think is best for you at the moment. You don’t consider what this does to me.”

“So tell me: What does it do to you?”, he asked.

“I spent the past fifty years trying to convince everyone you’re dead, so you and Morrigan could live your best life”, she reminded him. “I had to lie to everyone.”

He shrugged. “That’s just what you do anyway. Don’t act like anything was different for you during that time.”

“You were gone, Garrett. Of course everything was different. Connor and the rest, they mourned you and I had to act like I was mourning you too.” She had distanced herself from everyone during that time. It seemed like the only logical thing to do, but it had been a lonely time.

“And to be honest, part of me did actually mourn you”, she added. “Because this time you were really gone and you didn’t plan on coming back and I thought I’d be truly alone for the first time.” She chuckled. “I should have known you’d change your mind”
