What kind of people do AEGIS and DarkOps recruit, and how many people are there typically per group? What are the qualifications to enter either unit? Also, what kind of missions do they go under? Do they investigate tips/information in groups of 5 or less? How are rookies trained?
WORLDBUILDER + HEADCANONS
There are multiple section of AEGIS and DarkOps both, each with specific purposes, and the needs of each section dictate the type of personnel hired or recruited. Specifics can be found HERE, on the Recruitment page of the AEGIS codex. That page also has the qualifications for entering both units! The codex can be found under the links on my blog.
Group size depends on the current mission, but usually ranges from three to ten people. DarkOps operates in groups of five or less.
Information about what AEGIS does as a whole can also be found within the AEGIS codex, but most commonly they deal with violent criminals and gangs, regardless of where they are found. Smuggling, trafficking, robbery, assault, you name it: if there are dangerous individuals involved beyond what the police can handle, then AEGIS is involved, too.
DarkOps is a completely different beast, engineered to fight a different threat altogether. DO is how AEGIS deals with corrupted politicians and business owners, both in Piltover and in Zaun. They find people who are deemed to be threats to regional stability, people who care only for their own power and profits, and find ways to eliminate them without arousing suspicion.
AEGIS does investigate tips in groups of five or less, depending on the agents who are assigned to the mission (and their individual training/experience) and the information being investigated. If they are walking in to a known hotbed of violence, they will prepare accordingly.
Information on how agents are trained for both AEGIS and DarkOps can be found HERE, on the Training page of the AEGIS codex. This includes info on how recruits are trained!
As a final note, thank you very much for this ask. It was very in-depth and gave me the drive I needed to finish organizing my content for AEGIS and DarkOps in a very accessible manner. I had fun with this!
