Contemplating Christchurch
I arrived to this windy city on a grey day and after beautiful, sunny Sydney this city that still tells the story of a series of earth quakes, felt rather grim... Being picked up by my couch surfing host lifted my spirits though and the start to my journey in New Zealand had a pretty promising start. To list a few highlights... - Christchurch Yoga rocks! Experienced some of the best yoga classes in a long time at Grassroots Yoga with owner Katie & Flow Hot Yoga which I can warmly recommend (no pun intended). http://grassrootsyoga.co.nz www.flowhotyoga.co.nz/ - The Cassels Brewery Pizza - tastes great straight after a tough yoga class...washed down with a pint. www.casselsbrewery.co.nz - Canterbury Museum street art exhibition, a fantastic collection of street art from Banksy, Wooster Collective and others from all around the world. www.streetarse.co.nz www.urbanartvideos.com www.globalstreetart.com www.woostercollective.com - Christchurch Harbour and a lovely container pub Port Hole...they do live music too even if seemed that on the night we visited the band had decided to skip the gig. - World Buskers Festival. Fantastic and über talented street performers, comedians, contortionists etc. strutting their stuff on the streets, parks and various festival venues. www.worldbuskersfestival.com/ - Sailing Day with my couch surfing host Paul McGuigan. Fabulous day of race style sailing in the Akaroa harbour. No dolphin sightings but fast-paced, gravity-testing sailing, lovely scenery, turquoise sea, sandwiches washed down with Monteight's Golden Ale Beer, and of course great company. (Even with attention-seeking-head-stand-on-deck-attempting-girl on board...) - Dark Room Bar for great pints and best bar staff ever! :) Special mention goes to excellent bar lady Gemma, DJ Dance Armstrong and owner Jasper, who kindly offered to walk me home when my taxi took ages to arrive (mere 1.5h from ordering). Ended up chatting with these lovely people as actual customers could be counted with one hand... (What's going on with the Christchurch night life! ;)) https://www.darkroombar.co.nz/
Happy New Year!
Look forward to seeing you all back in LCC next week. Why not come and find us in the Darkroom, get details on everything occurring in the SU over the next term and give us your fabulous suggestions of what to do.
See you there!
