MARA has been spotted in beacon hills. the UNKNOWN year old DEMON is known for being VENGEFUL and MANIPULATIVE, but they can also be LOYAL and CURIOUS. it’s said they are currently OWNER at JUNGLE, and that they are AGAINST integration.
Even Mara herself doesn’t know how old she is, she has spent her life being loyal to her mother, Lilith, and following her orders. Despite this, when Jonathan was sent to hell, she felt a wave of bitterness at how she fawned over him, as though he were her only child, when Mara herself had been loyal her entire life.
Still, she did as she was told, teaching him how to find power from his demon blood, shaping him into what her mother wanted. When he died at the hands of Jace, she was tasked with entering Earth through the rift he created, and carrying his body to a safe place, once again at the request of her mother - she’d have much rather left him for dead.
She watched the fallout from her actions, being banished back to Edom when Lilith was returned there, refusing to live under the rule of Asmodeus, as despite her disagreements with some of her mother’s decisions, she was still her child.
When Lilith was killed and Edom destroyed though, Mara fled to the surface, reaching out to one of her children to protect her while she caught her bearings. Once she was ready, she possessed a school teacher from Kansas, not much caring for the mundane’s previous life, and set out to learn as much as she could about Earth.
With the unveiling, and finding that demons were the exception to the rule, she became enraged. Downworlders had demonic blood, but were still accepted. The Seelie realm was still intact, so they still had a safe haven. But there was no one on the side of the demons, and if the Greater Demons had a plan, they weren’t telling those lesser than them. Mara’s only interest is in herself, wanting to tear apart the happy co-existence that everyone has planned, because if she can’t get what she wants, then no one can. Having felt the pull of Beacon Hills, and hearing about the dead rising, she’s curious to see exactly how the power this town holds can help her achieve her goals.
Other Facts / Headcanons
Her true form is that of an asmodei, a demon with black wings and horns. While most demons find the human form ugly, she admires the prettiness of humans, this being why she possessed the one she did.
She has birthed warlocks and witches in the past. While she never raised them, she would watch until they were taken in by a family, to ensure her blood wasn’t wasted. She feels that if any reached out to her, she’d help them more than Lilith did her.
As can be expected, she doesn’t care for Shadowhunters at all, wanting death and suffering for those that killed her mother and destroyed Edom.
She likes to read, purely out of curiosity. It doesn’t help that it was an English teacher she possessed as well.
Not announcing what she is, she goes by the name Amara Kingston. She doesn’t know the name of the woman she’s possessing, but she is listed as a missing person.
