In a previous ask you mentioned that Apollo and Aphrodite have some sort of history, can you tell me more about that please?
Yeah sure! I know a lot of people don't give a thought to this, and those who seem to do, just say that Aphrodite has something against Apollo, given his love life is a failure (which is not entirely true either). There are not many instances where Apollo and Aphrodite interact in the myths, but the few in which they do are somewhat intense.
- They're both on the side of Trojans during the war. When Aphrodite is wounded by Diomedes and fails to protect her (favorite) son Aeneas, it's Apollo who comes and rescues the hero. I'm sure Aphrodite would have been thankful to Apollo for this.
- Again in the Trojan war, Aphrodite and Apollo are only ones who actually care for Hector's dead body when it's being dragged around by Achilles. Aphrodite anoints the body with Ambrosia while Apollo creates a cloud upon it to protect it from heat and dust. (Additionally, this particular instance points to the connection they both have with tombs.)
- They also share moments like this
I had always had the headcanon that Aphrodite would dance to Apollo's music and I'm so happy that it's canon.
- When Apollo brings Cyrene to the new land, Aphrodite is present to welcome them and personally prepares their bed (which might explain his success with Cyrene)
- When Hyacinthus is resurrected, it's Aphrodite who carries (brings) him to heaven, (while Artemis and Athena bring his sister).
- Aphrodite sets up a date for Apollo, which in fact doesn't go bad. In fact he ends up getting to have fun with 2 ladies. (Sinope and Thespia) So yeah don't say she didn't help him get some good romance.
- They were in a polyamorous relationship with Adonis. (and you can't tell me they didn't have some really intense, loving and spicy XD moments when at it )
- And the one I think is of the most importance, is Apollo's help to Aphrodite after Adonis' death
Apollo helps her to deal with her heartbreak.
Not really a myth but did I say they both were fucking beautiful? In regards with beauty, they were seen as twins.
Also, Aphrodite is said to have the habit of writing love poetry, so I bet Apollo, Erato and Aphrodite sit together and write love poems and gossip about beautiful, hot guys and girls down on earth (I strongly feel that she'd also drag Ares along with her sometimes XD) so you see, Apollo and Aphrodite are like best friends! At least, close friends! They'd have like the best platonic relationship between them. ❤️💛 together they preach self-love and self-care and that's really amazing!
