I’ve been really enjoying this for the past couple of days. A New Personality is Brent Rademaker and Darren Rademaker’s first band back in the early 80s. You may know these names from bands like Beachwood Sparks, The Tyde or the newer GospelbeacH.
I appreciate the opportunity to hear great musicians at their beginning. This is what A New Personality offers. I would never have guessed that the Rademaker brothers were influenced by the likes of Orange Juice, The Dream Syndicate, The Clean, or The Cure. But each of those bands sound pops up at some point on this release.
The physical release comes from the Rademaker vaults. I don’t think this is a reissue but rather something that is simply seeing the light of day from their own stash. This is actually a 7″ with only 3 songs...but they are the best three here.
After contacting the band, this is what I heard from Brent: “What I lost is vinyl only...When you hear it you’ll know why...we used to start every show with it gotta keep something sacred Thank you”
Check out the rest of the collection here. You’ll take a trip down the Rademaker musical highway - Further and The Summer Hits are other pre-bands. It looks like all of this was recorded after the boys moved to Los Angeles from Tampa.
