Darren De Mattia - From Make it your race to the podium in SPA

Darren, what are your feelings about this podium in one of the most incredible circuits of the world?

Excited. It is an amazing circuit and with this car (500 Assetto Corse) you can go very fast, it is not easy. It is a long circuit (more than 7 km), in some place it was more wet and with the slick tyres was very hard.

 You overtake some drivers to reach this results, also the leader of the “Trofeo Make it yousr race” Fabien Jeanblanc.

Yes it was hard, but a great satisfaction here where few days ago on the same podium there where the Formula1 drivers. Here there is also all my family to watch the race, the victory it is also for them.

DARREN YOUR FIRST FREE PRACTICE AS PRO DRIVER WITH ABARTH, WHAT ARE YOUR FEELINGS WITH THE CAR?

Great to be back on the track, It is very difficult to learn all the bends. More than half of the circuit is on a bend.

WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT QUALIFICATION AND RACE YOU CAN BE READY FOR A PODIUM IN THE FIRST RACE?

No,I think I have to wait for SPA, Hopefully this week-end I will made a lot of experience with the car fighting in the middle of the group, and maybe in SPA I will be fastest.

THE NEW MIYR2013 EDITION IS ON GOING NOW WITH THE LOCAL FINALS. WHAT YOU CAN SUGGEST TO THE NEW ROOKIE DRIVERS?

You have be to be confident with the camera, you can’t be shy. Practice at home in front of the camera more and more times and practice also in the local track some week-end to try the feeling of the track. You can approach the talent show just to have an experience but if you want to win it, you have to practice before and be very motivated.

It gave me a taste of being a real racing driver and it has helped me to realize my dream

I have watched F1 all my life. I have always been a Ferrari fan and I always wanted to race.

What is your passion aside racing?

My family: my wife and my 2 years old son.

What is your biggest dream?

To be a professional racing driver.

Which is your favorite circuit worldwide?

My favourite is Spa-Francorchamps

Who is your favorite driver/role model in history of racing and why?

Michael Schumacher: he is a fantastic professional who knows how to win and he does so at all cost.

Which of the other MIYR finalists are you most afraid of and why?

I’m not afraid of anyone, but I do respect the other drivers as they are very talented and deserve to be where they are.
