Das Gift was the long-awaited return record that rondoElectrico should have been; bolder, more inquisitive and explorative. One can hear nOrikO scrutinising and then mining her roots, caving into ’80s and ’90s UK dance music back to straight house, Yellow Magic Orchestra and Kraftwerk. She emerged with a downtempo pop slightly different to her original era, overlaid with smatterings of bloopy synthwork and, of course, a classic wispy delivery.

Miranda Holmes - Do Nothing Without Intention

Das Giftraum is excited to welcome Miranda Holmes for the weekend of 48 Stunden Neukölln. Vernissage: Fri 14th June /// 19h-01h Opening Hours: Sat 15th + Sun 16th June /// 17-20h Miranda Holmes is an American artist from Pennsylvania who moved to Berlin in 2017 on a Fulbright Research Grant. During the course of the grant, she studied at the Universität der Künste where she participated in their 2018 Rundgang. She continues to make work in her studio in Neukölln, and she plans to begin her Masters in Fine Arts this year at the Ohio State University on a University Fellowship. Miranda has participated in numerous exhibitions including a group show with Berlin-based, Soft Within, as well as a two-person show in the previous Agora studios. She will also take part in AXS Art's curatorial group show later this June showcasing Berlin-based artists. Miranda received her BFA from the Pennsylvania State University and she also attended the Yale Norfolk Summer School of Art and Music in 2016. Artist Statement: My current work explores value judgements surrounding the idea of progress. While my previous work celebrated self-sufficiency and solitude, particularly from a female perspective, my current drawings and paintings poke fun at values of self-improvement and question the logic of work. Revolving around a tension between the solitary and the multitude, or the enclosed body versus the capacity for transcendent empathy, my work expresses my own process of beginning to distrust ingrained values of work and progress. These ideas stem from influences picked up from living in Berlin, texts such as Hito Steyerl's "In Defense of the Poor Image", as well as a political urgency to denounce the myth of the Lone Wolf or the growing isolationism of the U.S. Often using humor as a subversive tool, I indulge in the pleasure of making which drives my practice. https://www.mirandaholmesart.com

Taking you across Brooklyn, Queens, Compton and the Upper East Side, we’ll travel together via dollar store loudspeakers, bodega radios, city bus cell phones, musical drive-bys and neighbor tracks through thin walled apartments, all songs duly noted on song recognition devices. We’ll even dip into central Cincinnati, Ohio and truck down to Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee and catch one from a pool deck in a trailer park underpass in New Orleans. Lastly after smooth landing at LAX, a recognizable song through nearby earbuds, the rented Mitsubishi radio and back to the hotel lobby. Venice beach freaks with their blasters and K-Town beats, Santa Monica pier arcades, Hollywood hills sauna speakers and Sunday yardsale backyard barbecue. Animals welcome. Come here.
