So this is getting posted today, it’s been in my drafts for a few weeks now whilst I collected my thoughts. Just tried to log into my other accounts and was FORCED to accept the above policies before I could even access them to delete accounts. That’s two Tumblrs dead with only one of mine remaining. This one! I think this account will be going very soon, not because it’s NSFW but because Tumblr is forcing my hand with privacy policy.
I’m sure with the changes planned for 17th December there will be many more Tumblrs going in the bin. @staff Have a little read, I’m sure you’ve heard it all before but in light of the current FB fiasco here in the UK perhaps you should consider not partnering with them, I deleted my FB account in February this year. I appreciate that Verizon is up there with the other huge companies but abusing data is not cool and people are realising that very rapidly.
Drafted November 2018.
Maybe I’ve been a bit naive with tumblr. I’ve allowed cookies and accept that I will see certain advertisements as the platform is free but............
To see the message at the top of my dash that I need to accept new terms meant I looked a little further. I wasn’t going to click accept without checking.
First three foundation partners? Well that changes things. I have stopped using all three where I can, so to see those three there rings alarm bells.
The list of partners with an option to select/deselect is not very clear either. Do I select or deselect to stop them using my data. Ironic that the introductory paragraph talks about transparency. Needs to be made obvious which way the toggle switch needs to be to opt out.
“Scroll down to select ‘Accept’ to proceed, otherwise you will not be able to access our sites and apps”
As far as I can see there is no option to opt out therefore the privacy policy might as well not exist.
Currently re-thinking my use of this platform now I have seen this. I’ve stayed with it all these years as I figured it wasn’t anything to do with the bigger players. Clearly I have been mistaken.
Another platform destroyed by greed?

As a former news reporter and Libertarian Conservative, I am dismayed and frankly worried about how cavalier the major media, the new digital techno giants and the average citizen, especially millenniums, view the growing assault on our freedoms of speech and privacy.
Every day I see tech giants like Google and Facebook infringe on these rights with impunity – getting bolder by the minute. One…
