Eiji: most lab energy of any character EVER. he's so loyal and wants to be everyone's friend!! i made him a chocolate lab mostly bc of his color palette and costume design in the show lolol <3
Ankh: small and angry. chihuahua. but fr i was debating on whether to make him a chihuahua and then i found a picture of a golden/cream colored long-haired chihuahua and went "ok yeah that's Ankh"
Hina: i used to work with dogs and Bernies are the absolute sweetest but theyre INSANELY strong!! and they forget sometimes!! very Hina :') also theyre both very elegant looking while also being super cute!!
Gotou: i don't know if i have to explain this one. i mean look at him, then look at an italian greyhound. it makes sense.
Date: Kangals are famously both very fierce and very gentle, much like him <3 I also think they have the just-scruffy-enough vibe Date has. @plushie-sentai suggested this one!!
Chiyoko: i'll admit i didn't have too too much justification for her being a cocker spaniel. yknow the joke about people adopting dogs who kind of look like them? it's like that
Kougami: he IS the drama.
Satonaka: standard poodles look very prissy and bratty on the surface, but are super strong, capable, and intelligent! Sounds like Satonaka <3
Doctor Maki: similar story as with Chiyoko tbh. I suppose there's something to be said about both Maki and bloodhounds having determination though!
Mezool: I wanted her to be a more famously water-loving breed, but none of the well-known ones looked like her. but then i saw setters are sometimes used for hunting waterfowl and the blue belton coat pattern was PERFECT!! also hunting birds. well. all the greeeds do that but yknow /shrug
Uva: one thing i learned from working with dogs is that german shepherds Look scary but theyre big anxious losers. Uva is like this too.
Kazari: i wanted to make him a fluffier dog breed but Basenjis are well-known for being a lot like cats, and the tricolor ones just felt like Kazari to me! sly lil fuckers <3
Gamel: gentle giant!! who just wants to play!! and be hugged!!
Shotaro: *waking up, holding his head* ow my head, what happened
Eiji: you asked Philip if the two of you were dating and he decided to mess with you by saying yes and you fell backwards and hit your head in response. He asked me to tell you that no you are not dating

Literally constantly having phallic object fight scenes where they declare their deep love for each other, in both the original trilogy and the prequels. They go to Blue Translucent Heaven together at the end.
Gotou Shintarou:
Gotou's desire to be stronger is met by Date, who is very happy to train him to be his successor. Date calls him Gotou-chan. Gotou saves him once by reading manuals. They have a shared theme song that their actors sing together. What's not to love? And eventually once Gotou also becomes a Rider, they fight side by side multiple times. Love Team Birth
