He works in the boiler room with the other lads and whatnot, but–
uhhhhhhhh
every time i see a trailer for Green Inferno, a little bit of my spirit dies
The person in that last frozen reply honestly made it feel like my brain imploded. How could someone be so ignorant? "#WHY IS THERE MORE WHITE ON THE PAPER THAN BLACK?" HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY MISS THE POINT THAT HARD? Racist Disney fans are something else holy crap.
that's because it's like...ignorance and pixie dust covered racism.
Positive, happy, ride or die glitter and wishing on stars racism.
It's racism that's covered in a veneer of ~*good feelings*~ bc when people hold Disney up as the epitome of childhood and innocence and wholesomeness they're sometimes unable to grasp that Disney is also a corporation that tailors specifically to children and families, and perpetuates isms and isn't exempt criticism or wrongdoing?!?
It is the most magical racism on earth.
Okay so I read the thing and watched the thing and that helped exponentially. I'm not trying to offend anyone or anything, I just really am trying to understand, okay? I get that I'm white and whatnot, but being such nobody has ever talked to me about these things or explained them and I've only recently started seeing these terms around. So I'm sorry for offending or being ignorant but I really am trying.
Well your ignorance wassuper offensive, intent or no, but I’m glad you checked out the links and learned something!
And I saw your more recent post about having some learning to do; that’s good too. I am a little concerned as to how you plan to carry out said learning considering the initial googling didn't work out very well for you, tho. If you have questions I might be able to help.
DON’T SAY COLORED ANYMORE EVER AGAIN, ISTG.
Do you think it's possible for someone to learn from their mistakes and change? Sometimes, I remember what a terrible person I used to be (ableist, cissexist, racist) and worry that whatever I do to try and change might not be enough.
YES I DO ~
I'm one of those people that believes anyone can change if they're open minded/want to. It's that simple. I would punch past-me in the face.I worry that I might give off a perfect background record on here, when that is sooooo not the case. Of the top of my head, appropriation, slut shaming, with light flourishes of internalized racism were some things I've dealt with in the past.
It's a growing process, and I don't believe there's a point where it's like "Yup, you're done! You're not racist/sexist/etc anymore YOU WIN!! :D PROCEED!"
You've got to be constantly growing, constantly learning and educating yourself, constantly checking your privilege, constantly being a good ally.
But then, I am a very optimistic person.
On occasions, I have been amazed and amused watching white people dancing to a Negro band in a Harlem cabaret; attempting to throw off the crusts and layers of inhibitions laid on by sophisticated civilization; striving to yield to the feel and experience of abandon; seeking to recapture a state of primitive joy in life and living; trying to work their way back into that jungle which was the original Garden of Eden; in a word, doing their best to pass for colored."
J.W. Johnson on Slumming.
Hell, Captain America is close to The Falcon and they have been best friends for a long time. Yet you rarely see them shipped.
OF COURSE NOT.
The Falcon?Pffft. Don't you know that guy's Black? (No really, this is a very good -and telling- point.)
