The coalition asking Daumesnil to give up the fortress of Vincennes 1814 (slight language warning)

This occurs after Marmont surrenders Paris to the Allies. Daumesnil was governor of Vincennes at the time
[...] he [the Russian envoy] had come to demand the surrender of the fortress to the Allies. Daumesnil replied, "I will only surrender this fort on the orders of His Majesty, the Emperor." The Russian was not satisfied with that reply, and insisted that the fortress must be turned over to de Barclay's troops without further delay. Losing his patience in the face of this obstinate insistence, Daumesnil replied, "The Austrians took one of my legs. Let them return it, or come take the other. In the meanwhile, I advise you to stay clear of my guns, if you do not wish to feel their effect." The Russian officer responded, "You're completely surrounded. You'll be starved out!" "Try it," was Daumesnil's laconic reply. "Well, if that's the way it is," said the Russian, "we'll blow you up." Gesturing to the buildings, in which some 180,000 pounds of powder were stored, Daumesnil said to him, "Go ahead, and we'll all go up in the air together, and if we should pass one another in mid-air, I won't promise not to give you a scratch."

It took them more than 5 months of siege to get him out of there
