☾ - sleep headcanon
declan is someone who, for extremely obvious reasons, has a hard time letting himself be physically vulnerable and relaxed enough to fall into a deep, restful sleep. but over time jordan perfects a method for getting declan to doze off in her arms. pulls him close under her chin, his head pillowed on her chest so he can hear the steady beat of her heart and the quiet rumble of her voice. threads her fingers through the hair curled just above the nape of his neck, scratching lightly at his scalp with her nails. and with the other hand gently traces the features of his face. strokes his brows until they unfurrow, his bottom lip until his mouth parts and relaxes to release slow, steady breaths. trails her fingertip down the bridge of his nose over and over until all that tension seeps from his body.
it's so effective at making him fall asleep that sometimes he'll catch her at it when they're just laying on the couch together. has to take hold of her wrist, bringing her hand down to his mouth to kiss her fingers and mumble a very knowing don't start, i have an important call with a client later into her palm as she laughs and presses a kiss to the crown of his head instead.
