Who’s the fu*k is The Politiks? It’s a fantastic project that consists of one of the most renowned producer Mark DeClive Lowe and U.K nu jazz, Afrobeat, electro soul and broken beat singer Bembé Segué. In 2007 The Politik released their self-titled debut album recruiting some autorities from the underground hip hop scene like Bahamadia and Los Angeles based emcee Blu, and working at the co-production with ex member of Platinum Pied Pipers Waajeed. Well,we choose the impressive and jazzy remix version by the one and only DJ Mitsu The Beats of the single entitled Moonlight featuring Blu. We start with a massive track Proceed 2 by The Roots. This single is included on the Roots’s sophomore album Do You Want More released in 1995! In this case they joined with jazz-legend composer Roy Ayers. The result is a real rare masterpiece where undeground avant-garde embrace jazz groove.
High levels, scratchers! The supa re-arrangement sequel of Robert Glasper Experiment‘s Black Radio is a milestone in a black music scene. Black Radio Recovered includes the contribute of many masterful producers: Georgia Anne Muldrow, 9th Wonder and Pete Rock that put his wise hands on the single Black Radio with Mos Def (he kills the beat).
We had already talked about Revolutionary Rhythm. It’s not easy find something really good about jazzy-hop but we think this young and flashy collective from Los Angeles make real thoughtful jazzy-hop production as you can realize listening to Calystiles.
Thinking about a jazzy-hop selection it’s impossible don’t mention Funky DL. This smart underground beatmaker from UK dropped some flawless stuff and revisitations of hip hop classics like his project Jazzmatic that revoke Illmatic classic street album by Nasir Jones. Surely if you are an expert jazzy-hop taster Kero One will be a familiar name. Frisco emcee and producer is one of the most representative exponent of the jazzy-hop tendency. In 2009 Kero dropped Early Believers collaborating with Bristol acid-jazz sophisticated artist Ben Westbeech for the single Goodbye Forever
The next track is performed by Nashville rapper Count Bass D and produced by Tokyo based DJ/producer Grooveman Spot. The remix version of Love by DJ Mitsu The Beat grabbed our attention and we are sure that it will engage also your senses!
Jazz Hop is a tribute to this genre by talented argentinian beatmaker Gas-Lab with the collabo of Brooklyn rapper Traum Diggs. We promoted his album, because this is real art! Don’t miss the vibe scratchers.
