On This Day in Baseball History April 11, 1993: The first all-Australian battery in Major League Baseball makes history in Milwaukee. Dave Nilsson and rookie pitcher Graeme Lloyd appear together in the same game for the Brewers against the Oakland A’s.
Second year player Dave Nilsson from Brisbane, Australia caught rookie pitcher Graeme Lloyd who hailed from Geelong, Australia. Nilsson and Lloyd were the third and fourth Australians to play in MLB after Craig Shipley who debuted in 1986 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the first Aussie in MLB Joe Quinn who debuted with the St. Louis Maroons of the Union Association (UA) way back in 1884.
As per Baseball Reference, there have been a total of 30 Australians to play in MLB.
