Check out the start of this PETILLO Joker Thinline Tele/Esquire inspired by Tim Burton's 1989 Batman movie Joker! I was commissioned to make something that's based on the Jack Nicholson Joker. After looking over the Joker's outfit I was inspired by his chess board pants. I saw symbolism in the pattern in the pants because when Batman takes on the Joker it's usually a game of chess to defeat him. The 68 inlaid piece top is made of Louisiana swamp ash and American walnut! Take a look at all pics!!!

TEN SWIPE PICS! The worst telecaster guitar break EVER! I was told an amplifier fell on it. I had to use a patented glue my Father (Dr. Phil Petillo) designed for 3M (just one of his 35 different patents in fields involving: medical devices, fuel cell/hydrogen generator technologies, musical instruments parts/designs, propane/gas timers and classified military devices that are still classified to this day). I realigned the broken pieces and made sure the wood fibers matched. Lining up the large chip outs had to be perfect to make sure the neck pocket would house the neck correctly. The last step was to spray the nitro lacquer and darken the areas that show the glue joint line when the pieces were put back together. Check out the pics. This restoration was done for Marc Delgiudice. Marc is the lead singer of Morningside Lane.

Checkout the before and after of this rare vintage Gibson ES-140 3/4 size model archtop guitar restoration for our dear friend Adrian (AJ) James Croce son of legendary singer/songwriter Jim Croce. After gluing the headstock back together at the correct angle alignment, I then laminated a four layered Honduran mahogany veneer patches into the back headstock overlay without covering the serial number stamping and a Honduran mahogany dyed black headstock front overlay. This technique of headstock restoration was taught to me by my Father (Dr. Phil Petillo) as a child. The last step was the old Gibson gold decal placement, factory yellowing of the nut front/sides and dark black/brown lacquer that hid all the repair joins. Checkout the pics!!

Checkout this restoration on a vintage circa 1970's Aoyama banjo. The first step is to align the headstock to the correct string angle and then glue it flush with a glue my Father (Dr. Phil Petillo) created and taught me how to make. The original inlay work was special to my client and he didn't want me to re-create it, so I masked off the inlay/logo to blackened up to the inlay with a reverse front headstock stinger and wrap it around to create a back headstock stinger.

Before I say anything I'm super vampire goth PALE in this selfie. The sun is my enemy! Folk singer legend Steve Forbert came by the shop for a tune up, mini-Schaller tuning keys replacement and a Petillo micropolishing of the frets and fingerboard on his vintage 1949 Gibson SJ for his tour of England this winter 2019! Micropolishing is also used with the patented Petillo Precision Frets aka "triangle/pyramid frets" and I apply this process to every setup I do. The procedure involves the frets being polished from 400 grit sand paper all the way up to 10,000 grit lens paper (which polishes telescope lenses). The entire idea is to make the surface area so glass-like the metal string can resonate a clear true note with intonation clarity. I always use the example of the wine glass filled with liquid and the player rubs the rim…and the friction of that motion makes a note. You can imagine if the rim was rough, it would not be as reflective to carry the note. That is the principle with polishing the frets to so fine and flawless a gloss…the notes seem to hang in midair. A Gust of Wind inlay! The design is made of Paua abalone, sterling silver, pink ivory and white mother of pearl. The fingerboard it's inlaid into is made of Nigerian ebony. Also, check out the Petillo Precision Fret aka Triangle Frets!
