2023 Best Picture nominee The Fabelmans out of context and as scenes from So Weird.
Just added It’s A Very Merry Muppet Christmas to the Christmas with So Weird playlist. It’s one of the first things Dave Squatch Ward worked on after So Weird ended.
I wrote about it before and a copy of Christmas Every Day featuring his So Weird son, Erik von Detten, is also on the playlist.
There are copies of A Madea Christmas (the one with Eric Lively) floating around. Two of the copies were the same with glitches of scenes being out of order (!). I can’t find other copies (yet) that are better to upload.
Spotted during a rewatch of Mr. Magnetism was this pic of the Bell boys - Clu, Ned, and Carey. Based on their clothes the picture may have been taken while filming Mutiny.
Any close ups of the pic were in halves - that’s why there are two images that don’t match up.
If anyone wants to see it on their own (or try to work their photoshop skills?) it’s the scene when Annie is home at night.
Ward Family Scottish Shortbread
Dave Squatch Ward – aka Ned Bell of So Weird - shared his mom’s recipe for Scottish Shortbread.
Ingredients:
1 pound of butter, softened and cut - regular or unsalted*
1 cup of icing sugar
4 cups of flour
More flour for rolling the dough
Instructions:
Cream the butter using a mixer.
Add the icing sugar and keep the mixture creamy.
Add the 4 cups of flour to the butter-sugar mix.
When the ingredients are mixed well, roll it on a floured surface.
Shape the dough to a uniform thickness.
Use a fork to poke holes.
Divide the dough to make individual pieces.
Place on baking sheet (use parchment paper for easy cleanup and cookie removal).
Bake at 350 degrees between 20-25 minutes.
They’re done when they brown on the bottom.
Notes:
You don’t need a mixer but you’ll have to knead it by hand otherwise.
Don’t freeze or refrigerate any part of this recipe.
*If using unsalted butter, add 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of salt.
You can watch Dave make it for more detailed instructions:
These could go great with a cocoa sleigh ride!
To all the mothers out there from Dave Squatch Ward We hope you had a good day!
Bell Boys Christmas
Not long after So Weird, Dave “Squatch” Ward portrayed Santa in the star-studded It’s A Very Merry Muppet Christmas.
Eric Lively, aka Carey Bell, was in a Christmas movie too. He played opposite Tika Sumpter (Gossip Girl, Being Mary Jane) as a couple who elopes in A Madea Christmas.
BUT... before Eric/Carey and Dave/Ned, Erik Von Detten/Clu Bell was in Christmas Every Day - a 1996 ABC family original movie.
You can stream Christmas Every Day and A Madea Christmas on Hulu (make it a double feature night!). It’s A Very Merry Muppet Christmas is more difficult to find on streaming (if you find it, please let me know!), but it is available to rent on major platforms.
When Santa’s In Vancouver (Santa Wears A Raincoat)
In 2016 Dave Squatch Ward - aka Ned Bell in So Weird - won a Christmas song writing contest hosted by a local radio station. You can watch the performance of that song, “When Santa’s In Vancouver”, here:
The following year, the song was produced and recorded under Sasquatch Mountain Fog Band. You can listen and purchase it here or stream it on Spotify.
AND! Dave took the song lyrics “Santa wears a raincoat in Vancouver” a step further in 2018 by publishing the song as a children’s book titled “Santa Wears a Raincoat”.
So whether you’re watching, listening, streaming, or reading, Dave Squatch Ward and his Sasquatch Mountain Fog Band can be part of your holidays.
Happy 75th birthday to Henry Winkler!
