[Overdog] [Keef Hartley Band] [1971] [LP] Is it jazz, is it prog rock or psychedelic? Is it philly sound, is it West Coast music or pop rock or even Canterbury rock? Is it blues rock or funk? Already the opener irritates and heats up at the same time. So that you inevitably have to keep listening. The second track is no less irritating because of the combination of Rhythm and Blues and Britrock of the 1960s. If someone thought perhaps that it concerns here a US American band with slight tendency to experiment, can be recognized with the third track and highlight (Theme Song / Enroute / Theme Song Reprise) clearly the British origin and could assume a piece of the Canterbury sound legend "Caravan" turns straight on the turntable. The following title track (Overdog) confuses once again with a combination of John Lennon on Spacerock Trip and Hammond organ funk. It continues with the once again surprising "Roundabout". Fantastic horn solos, big band horn arrangements paired with most delicious guitar solos, great! After all this tempo there is a bit of relaxation with the cool and jazzy "Imitations from Home". At the end of the album it sounds like a late track just before the breakup of the Fab Four, without wanting to pander to their fans. . Oh, what a great album "Overdog" is.
