Got around to visiting Davelle on the Lower East Side, another kissaten (Japanese-style cafe) that I’ve been wanting to check out after I saw their Gothamist feature a few weeks back. Similar to Hi-Collar, Davelle is definitely more on the intimate side and probably can only fit up to 20 people max in the entire cafe, so once again I’d recommend not going in parties larger than 2. In comparison to Hi-Collar, Davelle had more of ‘rustic chic’ vibes to it, in that sorta quasi-no frills, clubhouse feel with its chipped paint, exposed brick walls, and worn metal chairs.
My friend and I both got the Mochi Mochi Napolitan Spaghetti which I heard is one of their most popular dishes and consists of spaghetti with grilled bell peppers, onions, carrots, bacon grilled bell peppers, onions, carrots, and big, chewy chunks of bacon with a ketchup-esque sauce and topped with a sunnyside egg and grated parmesan cheese. The spaghetti was pretty scrumptious and I appreciated how fresh the parmesan cheese was since they literally grated it for you at the table. It also went well with the refreshing matcha yuzu lemonade that I got.
