I need a little help here
me decoding and reading the message
What an incredible way to do crowd work as a ventriloquist comedian.
every day my aro ass is tasked with giving my friends love advice orz how does this keep happening
Ashley and Taliesin are just playing their younger selves tonight
WARNING: This cannot be unseen
this is the best day of my life
Me: Exercise does not cause weight loss. This is a fact that has been demonstrated so robustly in research that even doctors, who hate and fear evidence, are grudgingly starting to admit this.
Someone reading that post: Cool, but have you considered that exercise leads to weight loss?
Me: I am going to eat you
lololol "does too"
does it? not for women after childbirth
does it? not if you want to see an effect size of greater than 1 kilo (2.2lbs)
does it? not if you'd like to see a maintained loss greater than 3.3% of your body weight
does it? not for people with type 2 diabetes
does it? not for people exercising for their non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
Interactive computer-based reminders to diet and exercise are useless.
I mean, I literally went to Cochrane Reviews, one of the best-respected sources for massive meta-analyses, and I just input the keywords "weight loss" and "exercise," and I'm tooling through the results. Every one of the damn things shows that we do not have high-quality research indicating that exercise leads to weight loss. So no. I'm right, and you need to adjust your worldview--ask yourself, if not for weight loss, then why? Re-read those sources: exercise improved muscle density, insulin sensitivity, and cholesterol. It's good for your blood vessels, it's good for your strength, it's good for your brain.
But it won't make you thin. Maybe two pounds, maybe five, but that's about it. If you're looking at short-term, like a year, sure, you can lose weight--but the effort will almost always result in your body going "oh shit, we're living in a famine" and you will regain it, and now, with your body at a new set-point, losing it will be harder. Regaining will be easier. Welcome to the life-destroying yo-yo.
#then what the fuck are we supposed to do?
Exercise and eat lots of fruits and vegetables and whole grains because those things will keep you healthier longer, regardless of how much you weigh, and pick up your pick-axe in the ongoing horribly slow and frustrating fight of chipping away at the idea that being fat is a bad thing that means you’re a bad person. I recommend the book Fat Talk for a good place to start.
in honor of ace week id like to shoutout every asexual who first thought they were bi/pan because they looked at all the genders and felt no difference and zero is equal to zero so they said "huh. must be bisexual" and then shoved their sexuality back under the rug for 3-5 years
Being asexual is that everyone on planet earth is just some guy
You know how you feel looking at some random guy you passed in the grocery store? That’s everyone on earth to me
Every time one of my friends intensely thirsts after someone they show me a picture and I’m like yeah that’s a human being alright.
Yeah I can aesthetically appreciate some folks but like. Idk what all the *gestures to everything* is about. I like men but not in whatever way *gestures to everything* that is.
ok this is a poignant visual metaphor tho
this image made me quit my job.
I remember the first time I saw it, i stared at it for several minutes until I finally just started crying. It made me resolve to leave, and I turned in my resignation about a month later.
This is your reminder that if life keeps throwing you lemons you are not morally obligated to make lemonade from them. You can duck, or catch them in a trash can, or get a baseball bat and slam those fuckers into the stratosphere.

This is causing a bit of a stir on Twitter but:
if we consider a door to be a kind of mechanical device, there must be an on state and an off state.
so.
IF A DOOR IS OPEN, IS IT ON OR OFF?
on
off
For me it must be off. The purpose of a door is to block access to a space. If the space was meant to be accessed at all times you would just have an opening with no door in it. When a door is closed it is performing its function of blocking access. When you open it, you are turning off this function, aren't you?
A door's function isn't to block access, that's what a fucking wall is for. Doors open, that's like the one thing they do.
Straight up unreasonable assessments from all parties.
A door is not singularly defined by its ability to open or close, the point is that it DOES BOTH. A wall blocks passage. A Nothing There allows passage. A door does both.
To say the point of a door is to allow access is ridiculous, because if the point was to allow access why not just fail to install a door and leave the hole in the wall open?
To say the point of a door is to block access is ridiculous, because if the point was to block access why not just fail to install a doorframe and leave the hole out of the equation entirely?
There is an argument to be made for both open and closed states being considered "on" because it is serving its purpose in scenarios where it keeps something out, or when it lets something in. Because that's the point of a door. Selective access.
A door is not On or Off when it is opened or closed.
A door is On when it is attached to the doorframe, and Off when it is not. The question is wrong. The end.
That's like saying a lightbulb's purpose is to selectively provide light so as long as it's screwed in, it's on. That's just not true.
A door's ONLY purpose is to allow selective access to an otherwise enclosed space. Its function is not to exclude access, that's what a wall is for. Its closed state is the "off" because it is currently excluding access to the enclosed space.
A lightbulb is placed into a room to provide light (door open, access provided). It can be turned off, when light is not needed (door closed, access excluded). You can put a light somewhere that always needs light (open frame with no door, open access), but you generally don't put a lightbulb in a place that doesn't need light (wall, no access needed), because the light would serve no purpose (access). Another way to look at it is that a lightbulb does not provide selective dark (selective exclusion), it provides selective light (selective access). That's why we consider it "on" when it provides light.
Similarly, doors provide selective access, not selective exclusion. Think of this: how often do you see an otherwise open door close to exclude only certain people (selective exclusion)? Versus how often do you see an otherwise closed door open to allow certain people (selective access)? We turn it on (open it) when we need (or want to allow) access. The rest of the time it's off, because we don't need or want open access.
With no need for access, there's no need for a door, you just build a wall. With no need for access selection, there's no need for a door, you just built an open frame. You only need a door when you want selective access.
An open door is "on."
im in awe
So.
The Sound of Silence is probably one of my favorite songs ever. When speaking of the “true” Simon and Garfunkel version (as opposed to the version where they added background music to in post to make it more “pop radio”), it’s a song that gives me chills.
Disturbed is not a band that I really enjoy. I remember in college, my (now) wife gave me a copy of a Disturbed CD, because she had two for some reason. I tried to listen to it, I really did. Didn’t do anything for me.
But this? Holy fuck, this is stunning. This is amazing.
This gives me chills.
Holy shit, you have to listen to the whole sing.
I have chills.
Holy SHIT.
This is the band who did “Down With The Sickness”????
UM?????
If you stop before three minutes you’re missing the truly mind-blowing bit
@deadcatwithaflamethrower you got me hooked on this song
You’re all welcome. :D
