He swallowed hard at the sight of the newly fabricated shackles. Nikolai had asked Dominik to look after this delicate matter in his stead, but discussing the details with David had been so much easier than feeling the coldness of the metal and all its weight, knowing that they would close around his friend's arms every night. "I still don't like this", he confessed quietly. "I wish there was another way."

"I'm an old woman and would greatly enjoy some peace and quiet" Her words are sharp, like the snapping of an icy wind, as they always were. She glances back at him from over her shoulder. "So what is it you want this time?"

He's only ventured into the Fabrikator workshops once before, when he was barely all enough to see above the worktables. Nevertheless, it took him no time at all to navigate the Little Palace in search of the room in question. Much longer to get the attention of the Durast he'd been wanting to speak to, thought. At first Nikolai had thought David was ignoring him in favor of completing the task he seemed so laser-focused on, but now he's wondering if the poor Grisha's deaf. No throat-clearing or shifting can seem to catch his attention.

Nikolai finally decides he's had enough lingering for one day and approaches David's desk, folding his arms behind his back, chin raised as he addresses him. "Are you David Kostyk?" he inquires, though his brow furrows immediately as he studies the Durast's features a little more closely. "You've got..." He motions to his own face. "You've got ink all over your face. Saints, it's almost as if you were accosted by a squid."

             forever.  funny,  funny  word.  thrown  around  as  if  nothing,  the  meaning  escaping  all  mortals  because  how  could  they  imagine  the  endless  curse  that  is  a  never  ending  life  here  ?  thousands  of  failures  adding  up,  for  him  to  contemplate  endlessly,  corpses  he  offered  to  death  paving  his  way  :  what  he  thought  to  be  a  gift  is  A CURSE,  the  old  gods  trapping  him  in  a  endless  loop  of  defeats.  barely  a  glance  is  given,  jaw  clenching  in  subtle  way,  decades  sand  between  his  fingers,  unable  to  retain  them,  unable  to  slow  down  the  flow  of  time,      ❜  you  say  things  with  such  certainty  for  someone  so  young,  david.  ❜      there  is  no  disapproval  to  be  found  in  his  tone,  lingering  amusement  should  one  look  closely  but  he  barely  allows  himself  to  feel  even  a  speck  of  fondness  for  anyone  anymore  (  another  body  to  bury,  another  face  he  will  not  manage  to  remember  in  a  few  years  ).

𝐎𝐡,   𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬   𝐰𝐚𝐬   𝐚   𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫.   Genya   stared   at   the   bright   screen   of   her   phone,   light   illuminating   the   horror   on   her   expression.   It   was   one   thing   to   offer   David   help   with   an   equation,   it   was   an   entirely   other   feat   to   offer   to   make   him   tea.   Especially   with   the   looming   fact   that   Gennadiya   Safina   had   NO   CLUE   how   to   brew   a   cup   of   good   tea.   She   remembers   that   last   time   she   tried,   and   watched   as   her   mother   struggled   to   keep   the   strain   off   her   face.   There   are   very   few   times   Genya   appreciates   Tatiana’s   keen   ability   to   hide   her   emotions,   that   had   been   one   of   the   few.   Coupled   with   David’s   expertise   in   the   drink,   she   finds   herself   chewing   nervously   on   the   inside   of   her   cheek   as   she   forces   herself   across   the   campus.   If   Genya   was   one   thing,   that   was   𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐋𝐘.   She   made   true   to   her   promises   and   there   was   no   way   she   would   be   giving   up   this   opportunity.   

It   was   hard   to   distinguish   whether   the   FLUSH   OF   COLOUR   on   her   cheeks   came   from   the   bite   of   the   cold   wind,   or   the   reminder   of   the   library.   She   doesn’t   notice   when   her   fingers   come   up   to   brush   against   the   spot   where   he’d   leaned   in   to   press   his   lips.   The   tickle   of   his   hair   and   the   pounding   of   her   heart   made   it   hard   to   focus.   Quick,   but   it   𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐃   throughout   the   day.   She   doesn’t   notice   when   she’s   already   at   his   doorstep,   nor   when   she   had   knocked.            ❝            Hi   Dav   -         ❞            Everything   was   a   bit   of   a   blur   until   her   eyes   narrowed   in   on   the   scratches   on   his   face.   Guess   tea   would   be   the   least   of   her   concerns.            ❝            Saints,   you   look   like   Flynn   dropped   a   scared   Harold   on   you,   or   one   of   Harold’s   less   behaved   friends.            ❞            Her   tone   softened   as   concerned   eyes   searched   for   any   signs   of   actual   harm.            ❝            Are   you   okay   ?            ❞
