Computer Salesman Diaries

One morning back in 1994 while I was getting ready for work I turned on the radio to listen to what has to be the best radio show ever. Dave, Shelly and Chainsaw - Dawn Patrol.

DSC had been holding a fundraiser selling a best of CD called "Old Lady Maggothead" to raise $10,000 to buy one of those canine companions, a service dog. Well, Dave explains, that on his way to work that morning had heard that Toys for Tots was behind on donations that year, They didn't have enough toys. Having heard that, he calls the accounting department to find out if they can do anything to help. He announces on the air "Not only do we have the $10,000 to buy a canine companion, but we have a second $10,000 to spend on Toys for Tots, and also a third $10,000 for a second canine companion."

So I made sure to turn in a couple days later for the big event.

So a couple days later the Dawn Patrol, Dave Shelly and Chainsaw take their morning show to Toys R Us there in San Diego. The manager called his entire staff in early just for the event. It was kinda cool to listen to Dave buying all those toys, "What are those? Skydancers? We'll take all of those..." Well during the event THREE Marine Corps 5ton trucks pull into the parking lot. Turns out that a Staff Sergeant down at the motor pool heard about the show, and realizing that two radio show vans would be insufficient to haul all the toys, brought the trucks and drivers to help. It was a fun show to listen to, hearing all the people that came together to make it happen.

I just had to share this because it was such an awesome thing to do for kids and Christmas. Thank you Dave, Shelly and Chainsaw, The Marine Corps, and Toys R Us for doing such a great thing. I will always remember you.
