Well this was f*cking fun 🤘 Painted for a trade with the absolute delight and talent, @ruthietheruthless, my best attempt of young Dave Vanian of The Damned I thought this was a fun opportunity to show you how I try to approach direct reference photos, which I don't do very often. When I do I try not to replicate a singular photograph but try to look at several and see what I can understand about facial structure and try to get a balance between physical likeness, my personal art style, and most importantly personality and vibe of the subject in question. My main reference was this photo, and I wanted to incorporate the gritty intensity and snarl seen in some other photographs. Ruthie is a master of portraiture and I'll admit I was pretty intimidated by this project at the start this was super intimidating but I really enjoyed it from start to finish. Is there a job to just paint beautiful goth icons all day, and can I have that job, thanks. Thank you Ruthie!!
