2012 a Study in Grief
I took a beautiful walk today with some of my favorite people in the world, through scrubby bush, tall oaks along the Highwood River. We talked about this ending year and our thoughts about 2013, it was magical.
2012 was a study in grief, both artistically and personally. We created the Honeycomb Tombs album in February with the encouragement and financial help of many of you, again thank you. Recording the album was a beautiful moment in time for me, as I tried to vocalize your stories and preserve them in a musical landscape, greatly aided by Dave Wilton and Latifah Phillips. The album is still available for free here!
Creating an album about grief has proven to be a challenge for me, as it stirred up many emotions and fears about my own life and the lives of my loved ones. I am learning so much about how being an artist is a call to dive in, an immersion and translation, grief became my second language.
I floundered and thrashed in the midst of these moments, I surely misinterpreted, however, this experience has compelled me to enter into more of your stories, to create more translations!
I am hopeful that 2013 will bring me alongside journeys of joy and more time to cultivate creative thoughts and songs for you! Dear listener thank you. Thank you for the encouragement, the loyalty, and trust.
