The Canadian film Videodrome was released on February 4, 1983. While the David Cronenberg film was a box office failure, it has since become a cult classic, was listed in 1001 Films to See Before You Die (edited by Steven Schneider), and added to the Critereon Collection. Upon release it did tie for Best Science Fiction Film at the Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film and won Genie Awards for (tied) Best Achievement in Direction, Best Performance by An Actress in a Supporting Role, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role. The movie is famous for its special effects and body horror. The movie was a mind bending experience about a pirate TV broadcast that could drive people insane by giving them brain tumors.
