So this episode had a few landmark Jeller firsts, and honestly, it’s one of my favourites in season one just for the case being memorable and awesome. I always think of it fondly, so rewatching it like this was fun.
Also it had DAVID! Prepare for excessive David enthusiasm, I’m not even kidding.

Kurt looking to Borden before he tells Jane that Emma passed away - that was a cute concerned moment. I have to wonder, though, what happened the night before. Did Patterson go back to the lab, leaving Kurt to go ‘okay, so you’re Taylor! I’ll tell you all about that in the therapy session in the morning’? Because I very much doubt Jane would just want to leave it at that. I guess for storytelling purposes they wanted to move on a bit, but I can’t imagine Jane just went back to her safehouse not knowing about Emma.
Ahh, gambling Tasha – I forgot how much I kinda loved this arc. Because you don’t really see many gambling addicts in shows like this. It’s usually alcohol or drugs.
“I’m just glad to see you with a skinny dude for once.” Reade and Tasha talking about dating is awesome. :D I miss their friendship. When it was a friendship.

Reade yet again arguing with Kurt about Jane. “Honestly, the idea of having her armed and out in the field with us makes me nervous.” Yeah, I was pretty sure that Mayfair was exaggerating when she said all three of them insisted she was on the team… :D
“I don’t want to keep having this conversation. She’s coming with us.” Kurt looks positively chirpy. I love how happy he is that he’s found his Taylor… even though it makes me incredibly sad, too. And Jane’s quietly listening in from behind the next row of lockers…
I’m confused about Kurt’s dress style for work. Yesterday he was relatively informal in a grey Henley shirt. Today it’s a full-on dress shirt and jacket (though not a tie). Does he just dress according to his mood? Not that I’m complaining either way, because he looks good in alllll the things.

The whole ultraviolet tattoo thing is such genius. I wonder if Jane noticed that her face was sore like the rest of her tattoos, but brushed it off because she couldn’t see anything? Having said that, I still maintain that if the tattoos were sore, they’d still be red and swollen, which Jane’s weren’t, so it’s kind of beside the point.

Of COURSE they have an undisclosed level 4 lab filled with incurable diseases in the middle of New York City. That’s not a huge biohazard crisis waiting to happen at all.
“Oh, yeah, this guy died because there was a tear in his hazmat suit. Let me walk you guys through getting your hazmat suits on now!” That’s reassuring…

I swear Kurt must have said ‘yes, ma’am’ at least twice, maybe three times in the show already. Every time he says it, my mind ends up in the gutter, even when it’s about something like shutting the door. My brain is just wired that way, I guess…
Eeek, the absolute worst time to learn you’re in lockdown is just after you learn that a whole bunch of deadly viruses got mislaid…

Aww, when Jane says his name he turns to look at her straight away. I just went and checked the transcripts on Springfield, and it’s the first time she’s ever used his first name. <3
And he sits down when she asks. Even though he hates it.
Poor Kurt, he clearly feels so guilty about Taylor vanishing under his watch. Even though he was only ten. But the way he talks about it is kind of wooden, like he’s recounted it so many times that he has it rehearsed – he’s just shifted the pronoun from ‘she’ to ‘you’. Things do get that way when you talk about something traumatic a lot – speaking as someone who’s been to a lot of different therapists!
That memory of Alice-not-Taylor leaving her teddy behind and going downstairs…watching it again doesn’t reveal anything new, but it’s so sad to know that she saw her parents at the bottom of the stairs, dead, after the memory cuts off. :(
Kurt saying that people thought Bill was ‘too close to…’ – I assume he means too close to Taylor? So there were actual rumours and allegations of paedophilia? Kind of makes you wonder how he managed to keep custody of Sarah and Kurt after that, even if there was no evidence.
I wonder if Kurt found it easier being inside the hazmat suit when talking about this? It’s a very sensitive topic for him, and it involves his father and his screwed-up childhood, plus what he sees to be his own personal failure… Maybe the suit made him feel a little more insulated and protected. Poor Kurt. :(

Rebecca is probably one of the more outwardly reserved, inwardly unhinged villains we’ve had on Blindspot. Tens of thousands of people killed in disease outbreaks in developing countries, and that makes total sense to her… :/ And Frank, her partner in crime, is just as bad.

Kurt totally willing to put his life on the line instead of waiting for the biohazard team, and Mayfair being so reluctant to let him, but agreeing because she knows he’ll just go anyway… It must be hard to be the one in the office, giving permission for your agents to go into deadly situations. Not as hard as being the agents, mind you…
Aww, Jane suddenly realising what it’s like for Kurt to have the whole Taylor Shaw thing uprooted and turned on its head. I love how it takes her a few hours to get past the repercussions for her own life (which is understandable) but then she focuses right in on how it’s affecting Kurt. <3
And he doesn’t want to talk about it. There are those walls again…
Rob Brown just delivers Reade’s deadpan remarks so well. Did they tone him down a bit in later seasons, or is it just that he gets upstaged by Ennis’ Rich Dotcom performance so often?
Jane noticing the time and freaking out a little, knowing they’ve only got a few minutes left to find the bioweapon, but not saying anything to the others because it just wouldn’t help the situation… Love it.
Kurt with his eagle eye, spotting that one bag isn’t linked with a security chain. Ahh, the FBI is so lucky to have him. <3
Patterson to the rescue again! Seriously, what Laura and Yas were saying in their latest episode recap about Patterson running the NYO – they are so right. No one thinks on their feet like Patterson does! She’s amazing.
How they all stood there while the bag was hissing the virus out and didn’t run off, I have no idea.
SQUEEEEE, David! I love how Patterson loves sharing the details with him, and he loves hearing them, but she’s not allowed to talk about it and she has to keep reining herself in, and why didn’t he just get hired on at Patterson’s lab as a consultant or something? That way, he wouldn’t have been tailing his killer and he’d still be alive… :(
Jane saying that they should have stayed with Kurt at the containment site – the way she says it makes me think she was overruled when she tried to stay with him, like he ordered her to go because he didn’t want her anywhere near the virus, just in case. That would have been an interesting scene to watch…
Ha! Reade’s little smirk in the background as the evil CDC guy is trying to persuade Kurt to come to get his blood tests. He knows there’s totally no way anyone can make Kurt do what he doesn’t want to do…
YAY! Patterson’s first ‘very not good’!
Ooh, that amazing little moment where Kurt goes for his gun and realises he’s in a hazmat suit and doesn’t have it. Nice job, Sully.
“This planet was not designed to support eight billion people” – well, Frank, you’re a crazy man, but you have a point there. But your way is not the right way.
“That is insane.” Kurt Weller, dropping truth bombs.
“In your lifetime, we’re gonna see famine, drought, poverty on an unimaginable scale.” Yep, but you know what’s gonna cause more of that than overpopulation? Climate change. Politics. Just sayin’.
Jane fucking LEAPING over those seats to save her Kurt, no hazmat suit, just determined to stop the bad guy at any cost. <3 This is why I adore you, Jane. And I love her combat style here, she’s just focused and pissed off and totally badass. And the parallel with Kurt charging in with no hazmat suit in 4x04 is great.

I love how Kurt just looks from the bad guy to her and doesn’t say anything, but you can tell he’s kinda impressed and annoyed at the same time (because she doesn’t have a suit).

Love how Kurt is totally not focusing on his conversation with Tasha, but just wondering if Jane’s going to clear her blood tests okay. And Tasha totally knows, and tries to reassure him.
“First the DOD, then the CDC – whoever made these tattoos had some pretty serious access.” I’d actually love to know how long it took Shepherd to cultivate all of her contacts and put her plans in motion. I’m betting she started before she even came across Alice and Ian in the orphanage.

I love how they actually talk about what Reade’s problem is with her (at least, before he starts suspecting she’s not what she seems to be). So many shows would just leave it unsaid, or have them talk to other people about it, but not each other. But Jane and Reade kind of do reach a tentative understanding that Reade’s problem with her isn’t actually with her, even if it’s not a friendship at this stage.
Reade’s obvious respect for Kurt is kind of heartwarming, too. Even if it kind of is eroding now that Jane’s on the scene.
Ooooh, Carter lurking ominously in Mayfair’s office. One day after being all ‘we should keep a healthy distance’.
Hmm, Carter says he and Mayfair met ‘the other night’, even though it seems like this episode takes place one day after the last one. Maybe there was supposed to have been a day’s break in there, before this case, but I really don’t see how Kurt and Jane would have delayed the conversations they have on screen for that long, so I’m just going to ignore that.
That smile is so frickin’ creepy, Carter. Stop it!
Go Mayfair! Her disdain for CIA interrogation methods is so plain, here. She never would have let the CIA have Jane, even with the danger to herself, and probably not even when she found out Jane was working against her, and that makes me love her just a little bit more.
“You were very brave today. Stupid, but brave.” Oh, Kurt. <3 You can really tell how much affection he’s starting to feel for her. It really does make me wonder how much of it is based on his assumption that she’s Taylor, and how much is because he’s falling for Jane.
Aww, it’s the first time Kurt really gets smiley around Jane, and even laughs a little when he talks about how he and Taylor used to play. I’ve been kind of watching out for it, and there have been kind of hints of smiles, but nothing really heartfelt until now, when he’s talking about recognising where the picture of Taylor was taken. And Jane kind of manages a little smile back, but it’s only subtle, so I’m not calling that her first real smile at him. Not yet.
Oh no, Kurt mentioned the fort… Though this is the backyard fort, not the camping fort spot. “I haven’t thought about that for a long time.” But you’ll definitely be thinking about it some more… *sniffle*
No one expects the Patterson interruption! Really, we’re at two in four episodes? Maybe that should be ‘everyone expects’…
Aww, the way he puts his hand on her shoulder and says ‘it’s really nice to have you back’. I just want to smush their faces together! MAKE OUT, DAMN YOU!
I wonder where Tasha usually gets the money to bail herself out of her gambling debts? The way she speaks about it, it seems like she’s been at least forty grand in debt before. :/
Kurt saying ‘my favourite of all the tantalites’ just makes me laugh every time. It’s like, he’s in such a good mood at various points in this episode, until he gets the news about the tooth result.
I love how Patterson ran that tooth test without telling anyone. It’s such a Patterson thing to do, just go up any possible scientific alley until she finds one that comes out somewhere new.
Poor Kurt, you can just see him go from being fairly light-hearted to ‘OMG WTF DON’T TAKE MY TAYLOR AWAY PATTERSON’. And that’s the last scene in the episode. This show must have been agonising to watch week by week in season one! I’m glad season three was over before I discovered it, not that watching week by week in season four is any easier…
Timeline: At this point, it seems like the team are closing a case per day, so this is straight on from 1x03 unless you go with Carter’s ‘the other night’ for him meeting with Mayfair, which logically doesn’t make much sense, since Jane and Kurt are having conversations that they would have had sooner, if there’d been a break between cases. So let’s say this is day four of them actually working cases, plus at least a couple of hazy-timelined nights and days of Jane being investigated and tested and polygraphed and whatever after coming out of the bag.
Jeller Firsts: Jane calling Kurt by his first name! Kurt and Jane discussing the night Taylor went missing. And discussing his dad. And Kurt refusing to talk to Jane about him. And Kurt actually smiling and laughing a little, even if he doesn’t really look at Jane when he does it.
Team Firsts: Tasha’s gambling problem revealed, Reade’s online dating habit, Patterson having a romantic relationship, Patterson slipping up with confidential information, Jane looking at Taylor’s picture, Kurt totally ignoring an important lead because he’s in denial, Jane and Reade having a conversation. He is the chief commander of the place called Sherrinford. The island were the 'uncontainables' are kept. The 'demons' beneath the road.
The governor is employed by the government. Lady Smallwood knows about Sherrinford. Mycroft is the governor's superior. Mysterious uncle Rudi must have known Sherrinford as well. Propably recommended it.
The governor ... though compromised by Eurus at a certain point ... can be seen as extended arm of the government ... of Mycroft.
DAVID .... Welsborough
Mr. Welsborough is a cabinet minister and as such a member of the government and a big fan of Margaret Thatcher.
Mr. Welsborough is Charlie Welsboroug's father. Charlie Welsborough went to Tibet for some time. Charlie was a week eater.
As Charlie, the boy who had a 'seizure' and burned ... he is the opposite to Carl, the boy who had 'some fit in the water' and drowned. I think one can safely say that Charlie is a Sherlock mirror.
David Welsborough, member of the government, is/was the legal guardian of his son Charlie ... was his paternal authoroty.

He went out with Mary for two years ... ages ago. Now they are just good friends ... says David. Sherlock deduces something very different:

Something else is rather strange and very intereesting:
It might occure not very often that an ex-lover of the bride is a guest at her wedding ... though it can happen. I highly doubt though, that an ex-lover of the bride gets assigned the seat nearest to the wedding table. But exactly this is the case with David. He literally gets the one seat nearest to that table. Major Sholto e.g. sits on the second last table in the room. As far as I know, the seats nearest to the wedding couple are always reserved for family or very close friends. But for an ex-lover? Really?
