1998 UK printing of Raise the Titanic by Clive Cussler (1931-2020). Cover by David Scutt. Originally published in 1976 and the third novel to feature his popular Dirk Pitt character. Made in to a movie in 1980 starring Richard Jordan as Pitt. The movie upped the stakes even further by slightly changing the title to Raise the Titanic! but this didn't really help. The famous quote about the film was from either special effects wiz John Richardson or producer Lew Grade - "It would be cheaper to lower the Atlantic than raise the Titanic!". The books (very much escapist entertainment and not realistic in any way) should really have been able to spawn a movie franchise but, for whatever reason, it just didn't happen.

It’s recently clicked for me that the same illustrator, David Scutt (actually far more associated with his Bond covers than anything) created the fantastic original covers for two of my very favourite books.

Sharpe’s Waterloo is the 11th Sharpe novel and was originally published in 1990. Chronologically it is the 21st in the series.

Sharpe’s Trafalgar is the seventeenth full length Sharpe novel and was originally published in 2000. Chronologically it is now the fourth in the series. Sharpe's presence at Trafalgar obviously hadn't been planned by the author and it was never mentioned in any of the books up to that point (which had mainly been set after it).

Sharpe’s Enemy was the 5th Sharpe novel and was originally published in 1985. Chronologically it is now the 16th in the series and featured Sharpe's final meeting with his arch-enemy Obadiah Hakeswill.
