i feel like some of them are trying to make it like. scary and dramatic but like

people did stop. people did help. people gave him water, people gave him oxygen, people tried cajoling him into going down while he was still conscious and coherent enough and people tried to help him

and he still died

did you know that fucking mountain has a fun little thing called a death zone that is so high up that just existing in it for too long will kill you????

even if you have oxygen, sometimes. even if you're warm, sometimes. even if you're healthy and prepared - it still might kill you, easy and in less than a couple of days (if you're lucky. slow deaths are so much worse)
