The program N.Y.P.D. (1968) got bad reviews in Variety and Hollywood Reporter back in the day. Both considered it routine and slightly pretentious. Today it feels innovative and unique. The music propels it, the gritty art direction gives it a dirty feel, and the recent advent of handheld camerawork gives it some docu-style realism. A series in need of rediscovery.
