Remedy Kinkvember 2025 Chapter 18: Kellogg's corn flakes (Saga/David)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/73481716/chapters/194209136
On Saga's rare day off, she can finally relax in the company of her husband, David.
Why the fuck is Saga always the "bro" for CaseyWake but there's never EVER fics of CASEY being the bro for Saga? Like??? Because she's already married and therefore the fandom assumes she has absolutely no troubles with David ever??? Or is it just because that's the only way some of y'all can write Saga? As an aside. Like, oh she's THERE, she just has nothing better to do than be Casey's hype woman and then bow out. Like, I genuinely thought this shit was over and done with in 2026 but NOPE. Saga Anderson is and always will be, at best, a jokey little sister to Casey for CaseyWakers and I'm fucking mad about it and always will be.
I have a really silly headcanon when it comes to shipping Saga/Casey/David.
Like, when Saga first brings Casey around, its to try and get him to feel better. In that one memory in her mind place, he says he was in a really bad way when they first became partners.
So she gets to know him, sees how prickly and moody he is, and decides to bring him around to dinner to try and cheer him up. I don't really have an idea of how much convincing it took to get David to agree to have him over.
But! Once David meets him? I don't know why but I just have this scene play out in my head of David seeing Casey, how nervous and sad he looks, and him going to Saga saying "we're keeping him". I kind of flip flop on whether he feels like that right away, or after seeing how he treats Logan.
(Which I feel like he wouldn't really know how to act around kids at first maybe? So maybe he acts too formal when interacting with her which makes her giggle.)
Saga had only wanted to try and cheer her new coworker up, but now both her husband and daughter insist on inviting him over a lot more than she ever anticipated. And then they become an actual thing as time goes on.
But the fact he comes over for Logan's birthdays and buys her presents really makes me feel like he is much more than just Saga's coworker. And Saga is obviously happy with David so when I saw all of the Saga/Casey shipping starting to pop up my brain after a while was like "David is totally a part of it and is totally ok with Casey".
And so! In conclusion
Random Alex Casey Headcanons
There's an empty couch open to Casey whenever he needs it. I picture one of the Anderson's walking to the kitchen and finding Casey on the couch, sleeping deeper than he ever does at his home, and he stays for breakfast before hitting the road. Or they know he's been there and left early by the neatly folded blanket and pillow sitting in the living room.
Logan enjoys drawing pictures of tired, grump Uncle Casey while he's asleep. She says he's at his most relaxed.
The Anderson's keeping certain food items or coffee blend they know he likes in their home for such occasions. Even including gifts for him under their tree because it's tradition for him to join them Christmas morning.
If he reluctantly takes part in an ugly sweater competition or two, no one is wiser as he swears everyone to secrecy regarding their photos.
Casey and his wife Miranda got a divorce due to mounting issues. The worst loss for them being a miscarriage.
Miranda fell into bad habits, and as such, took her aggression and heartache out on Casey, who tried to make things work while continuing to do his job. It got so bad that in the middle of the night, after a particularly bad argument, Casey left. All he took from the home was his favorite three-piece suit, work related items, every drawing Logan had gifted him, and a pair of shoes. He then proceeded to walk aimlessly through the dark, leaving the car behind, seeing as it was in his soon-to-be ex-wife's name.
David Anderson was leaving to go to work the following morning and was surprised to find Casey asleep on their front porch with his small box of items beside him. After rousing him and collecting his things, David put Casey to bed in one of the spare bedrooms, which ultimately became his own until the divorce was settled and Casey found a place not far from them.
Casey is a fine cook, despite everything pointing to the contrary. For a man who looks like he survives off six coffees a day with the occasional sandwich, he can fix a meal that'll leave most wanting seconds or thirds. As a thank you to the Anderson's for their hospitality to him, he cooked enough food to last them a month and provided the recipe for each dish.
When Casey first met Saga, he didn't think much of her. Figuring she'd buckle under the pressure of the job and go back home to find another career. To his surprise, she became a bright light amongst her peers. Enough so that he took her under his wing personally to teach her what knowledge he'd acquired over the years. Not realizing that in doing so, he'd not only gain a new partner, but that he'd eventually come to be adopted into a family he would cherish and gladly give his life for.
The first time he met Logan Anderson was when she was only a day old. Reluctantly entering the hospital room, the sight of Saga laid up in bed cradling her newborn daughter had pierced his hard shell in a way he hadn't thought it would. When Saga and David finally convinced him to hold Logan, he did so carefully. It was one of the first times both the new parents had seen Alex Casey genuinely smile. Teeth and all.
Logan became the brightest light Casey could remember entering his life, aside from her mother, of course. To those at the bureau, he was still the same jaded, hardened agent they'd known for years, but to those who paid closer attention, small glimpses of change appeared. Little things like a child's drawing appearing on his desk, or a coffee mug with 'My favorite Uncle' printed on it alongside a cartoon fox.
He was once ambushed on a case resulting in numerous injuries and a decent recovery time. It was the first time Logan had ever seen her uncle hurt that severely. It felt as if each time Casey woke, he'd find a small reminder that she'd been there hidden somewhere near his bed. He occasionally woke to a small kiss on his cheek. He kept one of the smaller stuffed animals she's placed on his bed. Furthermore, he always packs it in his suitcase when he's away from home, either for work or the rare rest and relaxation. Saga's never let him live it down.
The angriest he's ever been, besides numerous incidents with his ex, was when he saw a group of older kids shove an eight-year-old Logan to the dirt at the playground. Saga swears all four boys who'd bullied her daughter ran home crying when confronted by Casey.
Saga and Logan are the only ones who Casey allows close enough to snuggle. Something he'll deny until blue in the face, but on more than one occasion, either Anderson can be found using his lap as a pillow while he uses said time to catch up on some reading.
[ID: Image from Alan Wake 2 of a drawing by Logan Anderson. Her name is capitalized in a corner. The drawing depicts Saga driving away in an FBI vehicle with smoky exhaust clouds, while David and Logan hold hands in front of the house with neutral expressions. A striped cat stands next to Logan. Two trees are next to the house. End ID.]
I know this is from Watery Logan’s room, but I’m choosing to believe Alan didn’t just make up a pet cat. Adding Saga to the list of Remedy characters who love cats
i had an idea.
ko-fi
There’s no way I can think of this plot as anything other than Jeanne Benoit changed her name, joined the DIA and removed her wedding ring to sell her new identity (and she’s hiding her husband somewhere)
Considering we're pretty much at the climax of Holiday season... I was wondering how you think Casey would feel about Christmas/the Holidays. I feel like he'd probably be pretty uncaring about it all. But all that changed after he became close to Saga? He of course can come off as aloof but he'd be excited to find something Logan would like especially. And he'd feel out of sorts when presented gifts of his own? He's just not used to real, genuine thoughtful gifts lol.
part of me feels like he used to love the holidays in his child and teen years. it slowly faded when he became an adult, came back when he was with Miranda, then completely left after the divorce. but of course, it all changed when he got close with Saga.
i think as a child and teen, he loved the joy centered around Christmas, even if maybe he didn't have that great of an upbringing, but he sorta lost the magic for it after becoming an adult. not because he hated it or anything, just that he was focusing on trying to get to a good point in his life. his love for it came back when he married Miranda, and would help decorate the house and tree, and always buy her gifts that he thought she would like, even near the end of the relationship.
after the divorce, he barely cared about any holiday. not Christmas, or Halloween, or Thanksgiving-none of those. he treated them as just ordinary days with no particular reason as to why they were important.
after getting close with Saga and learning about his feelings towards the holidays, she tried her best to slowly get him to enjoy it again. she brought him tiny things to decorate his desk at work with, gave him some Christmas snacks, shared some pretty whiskey-spiked eggnog with him. she eventually was able to get him to visit their home, and even offered for him to stay overnight for Christmas morning, which he surprisingly agreed to. [Saga didnt have to pull a pouty face or anything!! that was a new record for her]
on Christmas morning, after Logan was finished opening her gifts, the adults were next. Saga and David opened the gifts from each other, then the gifts they each got from Logan. Casey was happy just watching them open their gifts, not expecting to get anything since it was their house. so he was fully taken aback when all three of them pulled out gifts for him, each being something that was guaranteed to fit Casey perfectly, picked with the help of Saga's "intuition."
he barely knew how to react. he was obviously happy, and very flustered, but he also seemed embarrassed for an unknown reason. they hadn't known why until he excused himself out of the house for a moment, and suddenly, he came back in with presents for each of them as well. he took as careful of note as he could to pick items he thought they would like. and they all loved them and thanked him endlessly.
he admitted to Saga later that day that he figured she would try to get him to enjoy the holidays, and even if there was no solid answer if he would, he would've felt guilty for at least not getting something for the three of them. he thanked Saga for coaxing him out of his shell and getting him to enjoy Christmas with someone again. and Saga went and thanked Casey for giving her a chance to help him have fun, and how happy she was of growing so close with him so fast. Saga couldn't help but ask for a hug, and Casey really couldn't refuse her, not that he wanted to.
since then he's started to thoroughly enjoy holidays again, even decorating his own house and inviting Saga's family over for Christmas and even Thanksgiving dinners, even having his own tree up to put gifts under for them to open when they visit.
he's also stayed up late with Saga and David and gotten drunk with them MANY times, often getting themselves into laughing fits and sharing work and life stories. Casey gets surprisingly touchy when he's drunk, so he would also either lean on Saga of David's shoulder, probably wearing a Santa hat and having a dumb smile on his face while he listens to them talk about past Christmas stories.
oh, and like i said, he now enjoys other Holidays too. he'll set up Thanksgiving dinner some years at his house to invite the family over, or help with preparing their dinner when he visits them instead, and eats himself sleepy. and on Halloween, he'll decorate his own house but will only get in costume when at the family house. he's always mostly this dark lord figure, like a vampire king or half-human monster man. there was one year he was lazy so Saga just put him in floppy dog ears. every time they hit him in the face she held in her laugh, so much so to where she was in tears.
