Link in bio. . “In the scrub, brush and rocky hillsides of Galicia, Spain, these horses are gathered annually to have their manes cut so that they don't get tangled in the brush, where they would be trapped and die. Once corralled, these two fought–too many horses in too tight a space. I had been running hard all morning trying to keep up with the men on foot who were rounding them up, and I was only able to make one picture of this fighting. . The horses from Galicia have a long history. Originally from Arabia, they came to Spain when the Moors occupied it for over 700 years. Later, they crossed the Atlantic with Cortés and other explorers, where they were instrumental in the conquest of the Americas. Indeed, the history of the Europeans colonizing the Americas, with the horse as one of their primary weapons, envelops the history of crossings between cultures.” - @davidalanharvey .
