Happy Birthday ♉️ to David J Haskins @davidjhaskins in case some didn’t know, aside from being an outstanding bassist, he is also responsible for the lyrics of Bauhaus’s first single release “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” which is considered a classic goth/gothic rock anthem. The two Haskins brothers brought the somewhat reggae and dub element into that song. David J was influenced by reggae at an early age during his “proto-suedehead” days visiting reggae clubs that skinheads frequented in the UK. I recall seeing Bauhaus as previously mentioned on one of their first Los Angeles dates at the Roxy and told David J what a life changing moment that was. He made the fretless bass sound amazing and his contributions to Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, and his solo + other projects have been noteworthy. I have yet to read his memoir book Who Killed Mister Moonlight? Bauhaus Black Magick and Benediction which seems to be filled with honest self reflection and compassion towards his bandmates, Twin Peaks, his exploratory uses of Magick for positive creativity and his views on dogmatic thinking to name a few highlights judging from an interview with Post-Punk.com @postpunkonline in 2014 around the release date. I have always been intrigued with the fire incident at Rick Rubin’s house. He has also composed various scores for plays and films and written and directed his own plays.
