One of my favorite homes in Bel Air. #Repost @saveiconicarchitecture with @get_repost ・・・ Casa Encantada, Bel-Air, CA. The estate was built in the late 1930s by social climber #HildaBoldtWeber. #CasaEncantada was designed by #JamesDolena with interiors by #THRobsjohnGibbins "who created hundreds of custom pieces of furniture for the nearly 30,000 square foot main house and its various outbuildings.” Hilda Boldt Weber’s path to #BelAir was indirect and caused her considerable trouble breaking into #highsociety. She never was was accepted as she came from humble origins despite her lavish estate and displays of wealth. Eventually Casa Encantada’s upkeep became too much to manage, and she ended up gambling away most of her fortune and taking her life later in Santa Barbara. The #estate was purchased by hotelier #ConradHilton for $225,000. #Hilton lived there until 1979, after which it sold to Dole mogul #DavidMurdock before ending up with the Gary Winnick purchasing the home in 2000s. Apparently Murdock "retained much of the mansion's architectural detailing but sold off most of the custom #RobsjohnGibbings pieces to make way for his own collection of 18th century English furniture." The Winnicks unfortunately renovation the home with designer #PeterMarino, interior designer of Chanel and Louis Vuitton boutiques. We love seeing this #oldHollywood home though in its original glory! If only the owners understood what a perfect place it was to be preserved as it was. . . . #belair #belaire #estate #1930s #georgianarchitecture #georgianrevival #mansion #architecture #classicarchitecture https://www.instagram.com/p/B-8hsrHB0c_6uDsDanpd9ZVuHawwlVWBi4NHHM0/?igshid=1la1e6blixf0a
