Tinder by Sally Gardner is a dark fairy tale for adults. It's more akin to the dark & gory original fairy tales than the cleaned up versions made into Disney films. There's death, war, and violence. But somehow Gardner has maintained the fantastical narration we all associate with fairy tales. The illustrations by David Roberts were a perfect complement to the story. Sinister, stylized, and completely in black & white, with splashes of red. Week 1 character study Part 2 for @svslearn - The sketchbook stage is what was called a “master study” and meant to replicate as best as possible the original then using what I observed from the illustration by David Roberts in Rosie Revere engineer by Andrea Beaty.
