Zack might’ve only known her for a few months at this point, but Adele had quickly grown from an acquaintance, both at work and the Church, into one of his closest friends here in LA. He never felt like he had to question what he was doing, or saying, around her, and when he did have questions, she was the first one there with a smile and an answer (and a sweet treat to ease the frustration). When he’d learned her birthday was right around the corner, he’d done his best to figure out what she would enjoy the most--and that was her friends. Some were available for a surprise party, and it was with their help he’d gained access to the house Adele frequented on occasion on the beach, and helped him decorate. Perhaps he would’ve been more hesitant to enter the place unannounced if he’d known who the house belonged to before Adele, but it wasn’t until he saw a framed picture of Jairus and Zahariel on a mantle that he understood. He’d stared longer at that picture than he cared to admit to, and the urge to steal it was strong, but he pushed it out of his thoughts and focused on finishing up the decorations and getting the food in order. It was nothing like what Adele could whip up, but he felt like it would make her happy, and that was the whole point of this. When he saw lights in the driveway he called out for everyone to find their hiding spots, and waited in his own spot just by the front door.
