The Davis Cup Final !

The final tournament in the 2016 tennis season is also coming to an end, it’s time for the final tie of Davis Cup, a waited one between Croatia and Argentina. Croatia which is playing on their homeland in Zagreb, has already won this title before and this is their second time to reach the final, on the other hand, they will host Argentina which reached the final for 4 times and hasn’t won the title yet.

The nomination for the Croatian side was surprise-free, everyone knows that both Marin Cilic (No.1 player in team Croatia) and Ivo Karlovic (No.2 Player) will be the singles player. The surprise, I guess, was on the Argentinian side, Daniel Orsenic (team captain) nominated Juan Martin del Potro (No.1 Player) and Federico Delbonis (No.2 Player), although Delbonis is the No.2 player, it was most likely that Guido Pella or Leo Mayer were the ones to be chosen.

The 1st match will be between Marin Cilic and Federico Delbonis, Cilic leading their Head-to-Head with 2-0, this will be relatively easy match for Cilic to win it and take the 1st point for Croatia.

2nd match will be Ivo Karlovic and Juan Martin del Potro, del Potro leads their Head-to-Head 4-1, last match between them was in Stockholm Open 1 month ago when del Potro won 2-0 and later took the title. It will be a tough game because of Ivo’s big serves but with the high spirit that del Potro has, he can take this rubber for the Argentinian side.

In the second day, the doubles match, the only player that we are sure he will play is Ivan Dodig, but with who against who, I guess this nominations will be changed. 

For the last day, the 4th rubber, which could be the most important match in this weekend, Marin Cilic and Juan Martin del Potro, they played against each other since they were juniors, del Potro also leading the H2H with 8-2 but they didn’t meet in the last 3 years. Maybe this will be a decisive match for ARG maybe not, it depends on the doubles match !

It’s a tie that everyone is looking forward to with couple of players who are on the top of their performance and made a quite good season.
