Random question: do Dawn and Atlas have other siblings? If so, did those siblings stay or leave? If they left why haven't they reached out to Dawn and Atlas?
Hi hi!! TYSM for this ask my friend! And I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to answer it! (I basically failed at asks all summer... but it's autumn now and that is giving me life!)
Anyway, let's get into it, shall we?
The short answer is no, Atlas and Dawn don't have any other siblings. (but I've never liked a short answer, have I?)
Long answer below the cut:
Their mother has fertility issues (same as Dawn) and was told early on that it was unlikely she'd ever have children.
In an au where she didn't live in a hyper-religious small community, I don't think it would've been as devastating of a diagnosis because she could've been honest with herself about the fact that she didn't want children.
Unfortunately, this wasn't the case, and she was devastated.
It's never fully known what treatment, if any, she underwent to eventually get pregnant with the twins. She insisted her prayers were answered and they were little miracles, but Dawn suspects otherwise:
[side note: Dawn was able to get pregnant due to where their child was conceived... which I had planned to explain during the final generation of the legacy... but considering it will have taken me three years to get through generation one, I doubt I'll get that far... Oh how optimistic I was... I may try to work it in to generation two, so I'm not going to give anything away... but if you know where Aspen was conceived, you may be able to guess where I'm going with it.]
All that being said, Atlas and Dawn do have a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dawn was particularly close with one of her cousins, and spent a lot of time at their home when avoiding her own.
Sadly, though, they will never see or hear from any of them again. The community is incredibly strict about shunning those that leave. And the people believe wholeheartedly in the reasons behind this.
I don't know if anyone else in their family has left. If they have, I don't know if they'd be able to find the twins now that they've both changed their names and moved so far away.
Their past is securely in the past, and I'm afraid Ezra is the only one that will come back into their lives (which they are certainly side-eyeing me for).
Speaking of Ezra, he didn't leave until he was roughly thirty years old. He had a whole life there. And he continues to try and stay in touch (even if he has no idea if his letters or gifts are received).
So, for him, there's far more potential for someone to eventually reach out...

I chose Phoenix and Dawn because I miss them dearly right now, but also...
💙TODAY IS THEIR ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!! I mean, in the story they got together in August like seven years ago, but this scene was posted one year ago today! I can't believe it! 🥹
💙My favorite thing about these two is how incredibly supportive they are of each other. My favorite example of this is in this scene where Phoenix takes Dawn to the bench where he used to talk to his mom. He said it was the best way he could think of to introduce them, and Dawn didn’t even hesitate, just jumped in and started talking as if his mom was really there, and I know it meant so much to him.
The other would be this scene where Dawn expresses that she wants to leave her job and stay home with Aspen. Phoenix wasn’t fond of this idea. It puts a lot of pressure on him financially, and honestly, he would’ve loved to be the one to stay home with her. He probably could’ve plead his case to do so, but instead of pushing back he said, “how do we make this work?” and they figured it out.
💙They encourage each other to remain individuals. It’s difficult in this stage of life, between careers and marriage and parenting, to maintain a sense of self. One thing they always encourage each other to do is to pursue their own interests. In this scene we see Phoenix pushing Dawn to go have a self-care day to destress and indulge her interest in yoga and meditation.
It’s been more difficult for Phoenix lately since his career is becoming more demanding, but he does still make time to run every morning before everyone wakes up.
💙They’re dreamers. One of the things they love most is talking about their plans and dreams for the future. Dawn has always been a very future-focused person. It’s a coping mechanism that keeps her distracted from her past, but it also allows her to maintain her optimistic nature, and it’s rubbed off on Phoenix.
💙They rarely fight. In most situations, they’re excellent at communicating and working through things. It’s rare they can’t find a middle ground. However, we recently saw a situation where Dawn let unresolved issues from her past lead her to break Phoenix’s trust, and that led to their biggest fight ever. When we last left them, they were doing okay, but I think it would be unrealistic to say that everything is suddenly fine now. There is some work to be done for Dawn to face her past and earn that trust back. More on that when we return to them in Part 5.
It's me again with another question. This time for Dawn and Atlas.
What was their favorite way to play as a child (ex: playing pretend, playing games with rules like tag,)? We haven't seen much of their childhood and I'm curious.

And yes, it's true, we don't know much about what Dawn and Atlas were like as little kids. I think the only real glimpse we get is in this post where they are reminiscing a bit:
What's funny is that Atlas totally would've had fun creating a really complex secret code.. but Dawn wouldn't have the patience for it.. she was just doodling and playing pretend. And that's a common theme for their childhood tbh.
Atlas preferred games with rules. He liked playing Tetris on the library computers or Solitaire alone in his room. But Dawn preferred pretend play - She liked to imagine she was anyone else and anywhere else, and she would drag Atlas along for the ride.
They used to play this game where Atlas would have to pretend to be a radio show host and he would interview Dawn, who would play any number of different characters that came to mind. Sometimes she was a famous actress or singer, sometimes she was a zoologist introducing different animals, and the list goes on.
I don't think she ever wanted to pursue acting, she never had an interest in drama classes or being on stage, she just wanted to escape and she wanted her brother with her.
Atlas always preferred being alone, and he wasn't much for getting into character, but he was always willing to indulge his sister. I think he understood that she needed it, and he never told her no.
I was requested to do this adorable kiss crew again for Phoenix and Dawn by my wonderful amazing kind creative beloved moot @igotsnothing !! It took me longer than expected to be able to sit down and do it, but here we are yay!! They're just adorable and I love them sm! Thank you Igs for tagging me back and for sharing all of yours as well! I'm holding them all in my hands like this 🤲
