Brew #318: Wicklow Wolf Dawn of the Red Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Red Rye (Endangered Species #7)

Abv: 9.4%

Served: Off the shelf

Aroma: Raisin, caramel, toasted grains, fruitcake and hint of vanilla

Pour: Deep ruddy brown, opaque, with tan froth reducing to a healthy skim

Taste: Sweet toffee wash with lush liquor licked notes of figs and woody, nutty fruitiness. Really rich bourbon flavour punches through accentuating the malt caramel and treacle. Soft carbonation and oily mouthfeel with a good kick to finish from that abv without any cut though. The emphasis here is all in the richness - bloody lovely. Very suppable and very tasty.

🎵Music Monday🎵 Huge shoutout to our friends over at @ninkasibrewing for hooking it up with this awesome Dawn of the Red vinyl. All tracks on the album were inspired by the beer and feature local artists from the community. Loved the variety and getting to explore new artists - plus there was definitely a zombie theme to a few of the tracks! . Unfortunately wasn't able to procure an actual bottle of their red ale, but this Total Domination IPA filled in nicely. Solid malt backbone and sweetness to support the Summit, Amarillo, Crystal hops. Definitely a west coast style with that resinous Hop bitterness at the finish with nice citrus. . .
