In his defence, Buck had felt fine that morning. Mostly.
He’s not going to lie; he is feeling a bit rundown, but it’s nothing he can’t handle. It’s just— between helping Maddie and Chim with Jee, and helping Eddie now that he’s back at home, he’s been burning the candle at both ends. He wouldn’t have it any other way though. Maddie’s been getting the help she needs, and Buck gets to spend time with his niece. That’s a win-win as far as he’s concerned.
And as for Eddie…
Well, Buck had honestly expected to be sent packing once Eddie was out of hospital. Ana had dropped enough hints at the welcome home party that Buck was no longer needed, which was fair. Ana was Eddie’s girlfriend; it was only right that she be the one to stay with him while he was recovering.
But then Buck had received a weird phone call from Chris, and he’d gone over to find Eddie struggling on his own and Ana nowhere in sight. Apparently, they’d broken up. Buck shelves that information for the time being and splits his time between work, Maddie’s, and Eddie’s places.
So yeah, he’s tired, but he’s got this.
Day 1: Fever
“Keith!!! I’m dying* Lance moaned from his place huddled under a pile of blankets on the couch.
“Your not dying it’s just a cold.” Keith rolled his eyes.
Their last mission was on a ice planet and Lance’s temperature regulator was damaged and by time they returned to the castle he was shivering uncontrollably and running a low fever after an hour.
Hunk had gone into full mother hen mode and practically carried him to the couch and decided Lance wasn’t to move until he was better.
Not even Shiro or Allura dared argue with Hunk and simply decided the team would take time off until Lance was better and that they would take shifts looking after him.
That was about three hours ago and only ten minuets into Keith’s turn and he was already going crazy.
“I know I am! I feel like I’m already dead...” Lance trailed off thanks to a violent shiver wrapping the blanket a little closer around himself.
Keith sighed “here if it says your fevers worse then maybe I’ll believe you.” He popped a thermometer he had gotten from Allura and waited for the beep.
He was slightly surprised that Lance didn’t say anything and just lay there staring at the wall with glassy eyes.
Keith felt a pang if worry until he read the thermometer.
“99.9 degrees like I said your fine.”
Lance didn’t answer, instead he burrowed under the blankets either trying to get some sleep or sulking.
Keith rolled his eyes “whatever.” He left not even checking one last time.
“Ah Keith I was looking for you.”
Keith looked up from sharpening his knife to see Coran standing in his doorway.
“Oh hey what’s up?” He asked placing the blade down with the others.
“I do belive the princess gave you a device to record Lance’s temperature, but I also belive she forgot to tell you you have to add six to convert it to human number-“
Keith cut Coran off as he ran out of the room.
If his math was right that meant he had left Lance on his own for nearly twenty minuets with a 105 degree fever!
Soon as Keith skidded into the common room he was greeted with a frantic Hunk and a seizing Lance.
“Oh God I...”
“Nows not the time Keith, we need to get him to a pod now!” Shiro yelled running from behind and scooped Lance up in his arms.
Keith followed on auto pilot as he watched Lance far too pale and far too still inside the pod.
“So what happened?” Shiro asked crossing his arms.
“I... I thought he was fine. He was complaining so I thought...”
“That you could leave him!” Hunk snapped “did you ever consider that he was complaining because that was the only way he would get attention at home!”
Hunk was shaking with anger now “he could of died because you didn’t want to be bothered to deal with him... Lance deserves better then you!”
Keith stood there in shock. It was true he led Lance on more then once only to leave... he just never realised how much his actions could hurt the blue paladin.
“I’m sorry...”
“Don’t apologise to me. Save it for Lance and you better be here when he wake up.” Hunk sighed as he walked out of the room followed by Shiro.
Keith placed a hand on the glass of Lance’s pod “I’ll be here... always.”
mini-fic for the kink challenge day 1 prompt: “fever”
Thanks so much for putting the challenge together, @shezmu-tummies!! <3
Warnings: alien mpreg, whump, my usual BS
Dash fixes Harvey with a glazed, red-rimmed glare. Harvey glances up from the monitor on the portable blood pressure cuff, for a fraction of a second, before delving back into his work.
“Thanks for the free checkup, Harvey,” Harvey grumbles, undoing the cuff and slipping it off Dash’s sweaty arm. “Oh yeah, no problem Dash, just happened to be bumming around your apartment building and not taking my day off or anything.”
“Mmph,” rasps Dash, unable to contain a sudden bout of teeth chattering. “C-c-can you n-not do this?”
Harvey knows that by “this,” Dash means, “A big ol’ classic Edmund Harvey lecture about how you shouldn’t soak in a hot bath too long with a belly full of larvae genetically engineered to retain and amplify heat, because if you do they’ll warm up to the temperature of the water while inside you and won’t stop there, and of course you would’ve known this if you had read your damn assignment pamphlet and/or listened to me but I’m just your doctor of over seven years, what the hell do I know?”
But Harvey doesn’t say any of that. He just strips the anti-stick backing off of a cooling pad and adheres it to Dash’s forehead. He briefly considers sticking it over Dash’s mouth instead.
