If I'm going to surgery, I'm going in style. I got my Star Wars PJs, one of my Star Wars shirts and Simpson's underwear along with Bombas socks and I'll have my Sorel slippers on. because that's how I roll mother flippers. Just crossed the bay bridge going back home. I’m not in pain but it does feel uncomfortable. The surgery took about 2ish hours and my team was really nice! My pre-op experience was delightful.
My post-op experience on the other hand left things to be desired. They were understaffed so my nurse would only check on me if I called out to him (but my throat feels weird from the tube and I’m still groggy from the sedation so that was. Difficult to say the least). I had to pee so bad and the first time I was escorted to the bathroom I didn’t get anything out and I was so frustrated I almost broke down in tears! Fortunately a few attempts later (and multiple gauze changes, because it’s not really anchored to anything, just wrapped around my penis) I was able to pee. That’s the only thing really they judge you on for being fit to be discharged. I didn’t get any notes or papers on at home care…. They just verbally relayed the information to ME (the drugged out of their mind patient). From what I recall (lol) it’s mostly just keep the dressing dry by changing it frequently, nothing lifted more than 5 lbs for 4 weeks, no sex, no baths. Hoping they sent me the documents through the app.
edit: the discharge paperwork was in the bag 🤦♂️ but still they didn’t relay anything to my caretaker which I feel was. not great.

so the surgery started at like 12:30 and i think it took like 2-3 hours. i can’t believe that waking up from general anesthesia was that hard. the last thing i remember before i went under was talking to the anesthesiologist and a woman in the OR about colleges.
my mom says that afterwards i was in the recovery room for half an hour before they started getting me up. they wanted to get me up and out of there relatively quickly so that i wouldn’t be as awake during the ride home because the ride can be pretty bad. all i can say is i’m glad that even though i was aware of the ride home, i wasn’t more awake at the time.
while i was under they put some stuff in my eyes, i think maybe to hydrate them or something, and ever since i woke up from surgery almost 4 hours ago, my eyes have been tearing up.
since i got both my chin and nose operated on, my lips are super swollen and i can’t really open my mouth too much. i started to try and eat pudding but i can’t with the too big spoon, so my mom is going out to look for those small spoons for infants. another thing is that i’ve been pretty irritable, which i didn’t expect.
one of our cats is on the bed, and i think the other one is either under the bed or next to it but i can’t really tell.
i’ve been sleeping on and off since i got home, and sometimes i’d say something aloud like “no” and my mom would think that i was talking to her or asking her for something.
i’m glad i went through with this surgery, but i didn’t fully realize how bad recovery would be for me on day 1. i have a little bit of pain, but i can’t take the painkillers until my mom comes back with the spoons so that i can eat something (you’re not supposed to take the pills on an empty stomach). i also need to change my drip pad (under my nostrils) but i can’t do that without my mom here either.
i think i’ll try and sleep some more now.
