Day 16 - Pain @daily-writing-challenge
‘Make the pain productive.’ Those were the words the demon hunter had spoken to his young friend and roommate. He left the interpretation open to however Aerden wanted to understand it, but given what he had recently gone through, it seemed fully encompassing.
Dajjelen wasn’t surprised by any of what the young man had told him. Both Sana and he were young, and while he wasn’t familiar with her past relationships, he knew this was Aerden’s first. The younger elf had been impressionable and eager to please, things had progressed quickly, and there was too much focus on their future together. A recipe for disaster with young love.
It reminded Dajjalen a lot of his first real relationship. Three months in and they moved in together with plans of ‘forever’. At the time it seemed as if they were meant for each other, that they had found their soulmates. He wore those rose-colored goggles for about a year until she dumped him out of the blue one day. He felt as if his heart had been ripped from his chest and while he went on and eventually did find his soulmate, he remembered how it felt. How Aerden probably felt now. It was devastating to lose your first love, especially in such a sudden way. Despite the fact that Dajjalen rarely showed much emotion, he could at least empathize.
That wasn’t the only pain he was referring to with his words of advice. Aerden hadn’t mentioned who had left him in that broken and bruised state, but Dajjalen knew. Anyone close to Aerden probably knew. It would be so easy to take care of that issue himself, but he knew that the young man had a claim on his own vengeance. It was one of the reasons that the demon hunter remained within the city walls, he wanted to be available to help where he could, even if that meant playing the part of an alibi.
However, if that man tries to lay a finger on Aerden again, Dajjalen would be there and he would not hesitate.
