Rotoscoped film 'Manang Biring' is this year's Cinema One Originals' best film
Nine films vied for major awards for this year's Cinema One Originals Festival during the festival's awarding ceremony on Sunday at ABS-CBN's Dolphy Theatre. Among the nine entries, Carlo Joseph Papa's Manang Biring prevailed as the best film.
Manang Biring is a rotoscoped film that tells a story of a terminally illed woman who does everything she can to prolong her life for a reunion with her estranged daughter.
Since it is an animated film, the challenge in producing it, according to Papa, was during the post production stage.
"The animation really was the hardest part of the film," said Papa.
He also added that the Filipino viewers today are ready for films that offer out-of-the-box concept.
Meanwhile, Ara Chawdry's "Miss Bulalacao" won the best screenplay. Despite using Cebuano as the language of the film, Chawdry was very happy for the recognition her film bagged. "I want to give Visayan people something to be proud about themselves because all of the media consumes puro mga white people, puro mga tagalog," she said.
Among those that received other awards are:

Dayang Asu
DAYANG ASU, reviewed. #C1Originals #KakaibaKaBa
Much has been said about the pacing issues of Bor Ocampo’s Dayang Asu (Eng title: Dognation), and I think that is what makes this film really interesting; it is a nihilistic slow-burner, but it’s more than just a slow-burner. Set in a town of Pampanga, it focuses on a father and son’s life (played by Ricky Davao and Jun-Jun Quintana) as they live in a dog-eat-dog society—literally and…

https://vimeo.com/143149968 We are an independent film production who wishes to use the medium of cinema to reach out to people. Our film project is the directorial debut feature-film of Filipino director, Bor Ocampo. He has directed a number of short films that has been included in national and international film festivals but this will be his first full-length film. Dayang Asu is set in the region of Pampanga, the director's hometown. The film backgrounds the legalized corruption in the area as the story revolves around a young man struggling to prove to his father that he is fit to live in a dog-eat-dog society. The film aims to shed light on corruption and social injustice as well as animal cruelty. The project is honored to have been selected to be one of the 10 film projects to be given production grants by the Cinema One Originals Film Festival this year, a film festival produced by a local channel network in the Philippines. However, due to the film's high requirements, the production grant provided is not enough to mount the whole production to its completion. The production is in need of additional funding to cover the expenses of equipment rentals, post production facility and of course to compensate the staff & crew that have been working on this project since its conception. We would like to offer all contributors acknowledgement in the film's closing billboard and give DVD copies of the completed film plus a film post card and poster as an expression of our gratitude.Your contributions would be very important to us in order to see this film in the big screen. Sharing this campaign and getting the word out would also be a big help. You can also contact us directly thru +639178004409 or [email protected] if you would have any inquiries. Thank you very much!
