HI V ! I just finished your Hogwarts AU and BOY do I have headcanons. Immediately, I imagine the first thing Max does with his first big boy pay check from the Flying Bulls is buy Charles a ring. He’s so nervous and excited about it that he just blurts it out to his new teammates, too.
I totally imagine Max and Charles in a flat together, at the mid-point between Flying Bulls and Charles’ training academy for his own team. They deserve some good domestic bliss. (Although, with wizard transportation, I suppose this is not necessarily that important lol.)
It would be so funny if Max was so nervous around his new teammates that they all thought he was this quiet, cold guy.. and then Charles comes to a practice or smth and they realize he’s a total softy (at least off of the pitch).
Your Brocedes dynamic was such a nice touch, seriously so funny to watch. I can’t believe Max didn’t say to Charles after he drops his news “also brocedes are married btw wft???”
Maybe I’m just a whore for animagus fics but it was such a TEASE. I need the whole cheesy thing where Charles’ animagus form is Max’s patronus, please and thank you!
Overall, such a wonderful fic. I’ve never had an ending inspire so many of my own headcanons. It’s been really fun!
Ohh hello!! I LOVE these!
First of all, thank you so much <3 writing that story has been so special, but seeing it being received so well and people saying it brought them comfort (as it did to me, while writing) and having headcanons about it?? I'm honoured. Genuinely. I smiled all day after reading this ask. I wish I could describe this feeling better, but I'm actually speechless, still.
And some of yours are gold! I'll try to address them all properly.
♡ Max getting Charles the ring immediately. I can totally see it. He's been thinking about that all seventh year -- about Charles, their life together, the future that awaits them after graduation. He loves the thought of replacing their old, faded matching friendship bracelets with something more permanent, but no less meaningful.
He's not sure about asking Charles immediately. He already knows he wants to be with him forever, and knows Charles shares that. But he also knows they need to settle into their lives, learn how to be apart (which is not easy, after living in such close proximity for so many years) and how to find a balance outside Hogwarts. Because Max has a place in a team and is away all summer on training camp, but Charles is not even close to that.
So Max knows they can't throw themselves in too many new things, has reasoned exactly that way in Year 7. But that doesn't stop him from looking at rings, distractedly at first, before he starts wondering which one could fit Charles; what would Charles like; what Max thinks Charles would love. So when he gets the first big big paycheck (which is after the season begins and he starts getting good results, feeling more and more in tune with the team and with the professional Quidditch life), and coincidentally sees the loveliest, most stunning ring... he just does it. For his future self, you know? He's trying to make things easier for him.
♡ Yes, they do live together. In a flat, probably in London, at first. They love it; it's small, homely, perfect for two young people in love. They're out most of the time, obviously, but relish those quiet, domestic moments when it's just them (and Circe, of course) and they can just be. Max can cook breakfast as Charles makes tea and watches him with soft eyes, chin propped on his hand. At night, they can curl up on the couch with Circe, bodies aching, bone tired but happy, and Charles can show Max all his favourites tv shows and films. It's not the perfect flat -- the upstairs neighbours are loud, the kitchen is definitely too small, and in winter the heating works when it feels like it, no matter how many times they try to fix it with magic -- but it's theirs, and it feels like home, like a mix of them both, together.
They move somewhere else when they are more settled and can afford it.
♡ Max being super nervous and on edge around his new teammates is not even a headcanon, it's reality. He's convinced he can't show a hint of weakness, and they don't go easy on him, at first. A random teenager fresh out of school going from the school League to a real, professional Quidditch team? Yeah, sure. But they slowly come to see that Max is just that good, that passionate, that focused, and they try to get to know him as a person, too. But you know how Max is. He doesn't care about making small talk just for the sake of it; he's eager to learn on his broomstick, but doesn't talk much about his life outside of Quidditch. So when Charles stops by, one day, and Max's eyes light up and go soft, crinkling happily, his teammates almost do a double take.
♡ Oh I had so much fun with Brocedes, to be honest!! It was one of my favourite dynamics to write about. I had fun with Rosberg, in particular, as you can probably tell.
Well, you know how Max is. He doesn't care about other people's business, doesn't care about gossip -- he hears stuff but doesn't really get involved in it, excluding when Lando laments no one wants to ask him out and Max reveals some girls are definitely interested in him. Max is the type to throw information carelessly mid-conversation, and he does the same with Brocedes. Alex, George and Lando would be particularly floored when learning about it, with Alex howling with laughter and Lando shrieking, half horrified and half fascinated, and Charles would be fish-mouthing, too. Oscar would just blink at them all, not really interested. And Carlos knew all along, obviously.
♡ Aw, yes. If Charles ever wishes, and manages, to become an Animagus, he would definitely match Max's Patronus, because they're soulmates like that <3 god, how I love them.
Thank you so, so much for this ask, I really loved it and had so much fun <3
