Winter at Merton’s hermitage is remarkably calm and quiet, especially in contrast to summer’s insect chorus: the distant murmur of man’s machines (an inescapable reality even in the quietest of places), the occasional yips and howls of a pack of coyotes, the creaks and moans of pine trees, but otherwise silent. Calm is perforated with the work of seeking warmth; tend the fire or else freeze. Excited to share this beautiful cinematic meditation directed by my pal @casshall for Merton fans and non-fans alike. #thomasmerton #hermitage #dayofastranger (at Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani) https://www.instagram.com/p/BuEtOasDM90/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=g3gl9etrfe3n
