Ruby deserved better.

She deserved proper closure from Otis. She so very obviously still loved him, and was heartbroken when he ignored her texts because of Maeve. It's like Eric said, "When Maeve is involved, Otis doesn't care about anyone else anymore."

I kept waiting for Otis to go up and have a genuine talk with her, sincerely apologizing to her, but it never happened. The only thing was, "Want to be friends?" I'm so happy she turned that offer down because girl deserved better.

(I was rooting for them, though, ngl. I just really love their chemistry and interaction.)

I wish she would have had more interaction with the rest of the cast. Maybe her and Eric discussing how awful it feels when they're being neglected by Otis because of Maeve.

I wish she would have had a little more growth shown, actually on screen, where she acknowledged that her having been heavily bullied made her a bully herself as a means to protect herself. Just a bit more than just that little speech she gave at the end of wanting to become better. I mean, it was all implied very well, but I wanted her to have more screentime to have fleshed that out more. But good for her for saying condolences to Maeve about the latter having lost her mom, and not defending herself when Maeve brushed her off because Maeve had every right to do that.

Also, there should have been a mention that she's such a political powerhouse (she got Connor elected for therapist in two or so weeks, while the other two candidates have been therapists for years) and she would want to pursue a career in that. I could easily see her become a softer version of Jen Barkley from Parks & Rec.

Honestly, Ruby really deserved better.

hello so i’ve decided to list my top fictional couples. some with my favorite tropes attached, some without. some canon, some not. some are controversial but idc. they’re MY faves. you don’t have to like them, hell you CAN disagree. but what i will not tolerate on MY blog is disrespect. so keep it cute :).

alright in no particular order shall we get started?

1. Kanthony, they truly are a beautiful representation of rivals to lovers. i know public opinion and the author likes to list them as enemies but if you look at my blog you’ll see what i feel is truly enemies. anyways the gentle looks, the yearning, the sweet words…best season of bridgerton.

2. Rotis, now if you know me you know i’m a sucker for popular girl x nerdy boy. especially if the girl is head over heels in love with her nerdy boy. every day i grieve that they’re not canon. they truly brought out the best in one another. otis wasn’t deeply insecure and questioning everything and ruby was more vulnerable, softer with him. i grieve.

3. Spelivia, this was the perfect trope of she fell first but he fell harder. i love love love seeing black love bloom and grow. the way they held one another accountable. the way that they pushed one another even if it meant not being together. the way that they supported one another when separated. that is love.

4. Jori, another perfect example or frenemies/ rivals to lovers. if we’re being honest as a child, i always felt tension between the two. a lot of the things they did for another, there isn’t a hetero explanation in the world. tori really cared about jades opinion and tori was jades safe space and the only person she really allowed to touch her.

5. Jacey, surprise surprise another rivals to lovers trope lmao. but look, the tension was always there. pacey allowed joey to have her own autonomy and individuality. he pushed her to her goals. he wanted her happy even if it wasn’t with him. he was just happy to be in her life. jacey is the most iconic love triangle that most tv shows today try to replicate it.

6. Everlark, ah a ship that is the epitome of fated. soulmates/it was always going to be you. despite the horrors they went through they still managed to fall in love not once but TWICE. through torture, through the deaths of their friends and family, through having to kill to survive. peeta was that gentleness that katniss needed in the chaos. he never pushed her to love him. he accepted her as she was and what she offered and each time he could put his life on the line to keep her safe he did it. each time katniss could keep peeta alive or save him she made sure it was done. they’re truly each others person.

7. Rina, my favorite invisible string theory couple. they are one of the few jacey adjacent ships that were executed properly. ricky struggling with change and gina struggling with stability. they were written for one another. ricky gives gina that stability that she needs and gina gives ricky that change he needs. rina will always be famous.

now…lmao time for some controversial ships. reminder to be kind. if you don’t agree that is fine. but again these are MY opinions. you don’t have to be here.

8. Raylor, now as much as the oc fandom adores marissa i quite literally couldn’t stand her and because of that i couldn’t root for her and ryan. the relationship was toxic from beginning to end. i always felt that they should let one another go. marissa was constantly spiraling and ryan was constantly trying to save her. but with taylor, ryan is lighter. happier. he’s not constantly on edge. he cracks jokes. taylor allows him to be vulnerable and light. he allows taylor to be her neurotic self without judgement. he humors her in a lot of the things she enjoys and says. they bring one another a sense of peace that they’ve never truly had. the only other people i’ve seen ryan be at peace with besides taylor is the cohens and summer.

9. Bellyjere/Jelly, now i love a good friends to lovers ship. jeremiah being in love with belly since they were kids is sweet. him knowing that she had feelings for his brother and not acting on them because he felt she’d never return his feelings just for her to start dating and him finally voice himself…. yeah. the way he’s gentle with her. he’s attentive to her needs and her likes and dislikes. he reminds her how great she is when she forgets. he pushes her towards her goals and things she loves. it sucks that it’s being stripped away to build up another ship. as a writer it pains me. if you have to assassinate a character so badly to make another look better, you’re not a good writer.

10. Riara, now this is a true blue enemies to lovers ship. reminder enemies to lovers means they both have to have had to actively try to kill one another. they have. they have to truly hate one another to be enemies to lovers. they do. that being said, the tension. god the tension they have is so goddamn palpable i can feel it through the screen. i love it. i feel something when they’re onscreen. i feel as if i’m intruding on a private moment. the way rafe speaks so softly to her. beginning to show some care. yeah i love me a true enemies to lovers.

lmao i have more but unfortunately i’ve reached the image limit. but these are some of my favorite ships in media. i love each one for different reasons. might do this again it was fun. but each of these in their own way help inspire me to write. the layers to each character. the depth to the ships. the chemistry.
