There’s something about forgotten media and how it used to be consumed that makes me so inconsolable
When I was a teenager there was this website called Daytrotter and it literally took me FOREVER to find that name. I scoured for hours trying different phrasing in the search bar because it was such a vivid and lovely memory in my head and finally, finally I found the Daytrotter Sessions. Artists used to do acoustic sessions with them and it would be available for download online for like 2$ and would be free to listen to on the web browser- and what was even cooler was that all sessions had a drawn album cover in this unique style.
I found out it’s “archived” on Wolfgang’s which is genuinely the worst app ever made and is broken. All I can really find of it now is a few of the sessions on YouTube. But I’m just glad I finally found it. Nothing like this will ever exist again in the same way as Daytrotter did it. They created something that felt so personal to the listener - linking the artists with the listeners in a tangible way.
I remember being exposed to new bands I still love today or being excited when someone I already loved did a session. I remember always having the Daytrotter tab open on my computer and listening with my earbuds. I loved having the album covers on my iPod :)
