Day 3 (12/17): pillow fort
@dazaimultishipweek
The moon glowed high above the window. Its full glory shone blue light upon the living room floor. Any other person would think of it as peaceful, but the Kunikidazai family wasn’t a group of “normal” people.
Atsushi cowered in the corner, curled up in a ball.
“Don’t let it touch me,” he whimpered. “I’ll hurt you.”
Dazai’s heart ached. He and his husband, Kunikida, had adopted Atsushi quite recently. They’d only been together for about six months, and the abuse Atsushi had suffered at the orphanage still haunted him. Ever since he learned about his ability, he’d been swarmed with fear and worry. Such things shouldn’t trouble a six-year-old. That was horrible, even to an ex-mafia executive.
Dazai had to do all he could to quell his son’s fears.
“You won’t,” he assured. “My ability will stop that from ever happening.”
Atsushi shook his head and buried it in his knees. “I’ll get punished if I hurt you. I can’t… And your ability won’t make Daddy safe.”
His words tore at Dazai’s heart. He looked at Kunikida for guidance.
“See, I’m a problem,” Atsushi mumbled.
“No, you’re not. You’ll never be a problem, okay, Atsu?” Kunikida inched towards Atsushi as to not frighten him more. ‘In fact, I think—“
“Go away.”
Kunikida backed off.
An idea sprung into Dazai’s mind. “You know, if the moonlight doesn’t tough you, you won’t turn into a tiger. So, why don’t we build a pillow fort to block it?”
“A pillow fort?” repeated Kunikida and Atsushi in unison.
“Yes,” said Dazai, motioning for Kunikida to make his way to the couch. “We’ll get lots and lots of pillows, and then the moon will never get you. But I’m going to need your help.”
Atsushi raised his head. “Will you hold my hand?”
“Of course. Pappy’s got you.” Dazai bent down to Atsushi’s level and extended his hand. “I promise to hold onto you as long as you need.”
Atsushi reached forth his tiny hand and clenched his fist around Dazai’s hand.
“Toss me a pillow, darling,” said Dazai. Kunikida obliged. “Would you like to go first, Atsu?”
“O-okay.” Tentatively, he took it and pushed it towards the light, making sure not to touch the places the moon shone upon.
“That’s not too hard, is it?”
“How many do I have to do until you don’t hit me?”
Reality slammed into Dazai like a truck. He nearly choked on a breath. How dare that orphanage director be so cruel? “I’m never going to hit you.”
“Never?”
“I promise. Never, not ever.”
“And me too,” added Kunikida. “We adopted you because we wanted to. We’d never do anything mean to you.”
Finally, Dazai’s heart warmed. Kunikida had originally been very against adopting a child. But now, he cared about Atsushi possibly more than anyone. His words only made that love more apparent.
Atsushi sniffled. “Why are you being nice? No one was ever nice to me before.”
“Because we love you.”
Atsushi processed this. “You… love me?”
Dazai and Kunikida both nodded. “So, we’re going to all build the biggest pillow fort and keep you and us safe. Here.” Dazai grabbed a pillow with his free hand. “I’ll go first. If you just want to watch, that’s okay too.”
He stacked pillows one by one, and after about five of them, Kunikida joined in.
“That’s a pretty big wall,” said Atsushi, gaping at the fort.
Next, Kunikida dragged in two chairs from the dining room and placed them in opposite directions on each side of the fort.
“What are those for?” Atsushi asked.
“Once I put a blanket over those chairs, it’ll be like a new roof. Then, the moonlight won’t stand a chance.”
He draped a blanket over the chairs as described. “Now, all that’s left to do is go inside. If you’d like to.”
Atsushi pursed his lips. “Will you and Pappy be in there too?”
“Of course, if you want us too.”
“Okay.”
———————————————————————————————————
Atsushi lay on the bed of pillows, snoring gently.
Dazai hugged Kunikida’s shoulder against his own, smiling at their son. He didn’t need to say anything. All he had to do was just watch his dear little boy sleep.
“Are you sure he’s not going to transform?” Kunikida asked. “I really do want to keep my promise.”
“No, I think we’ll be fine,” replied Dazai, shifting his view to Kunikida. “And if he does, all I need to do is touch him. It’s impossible for me to get hurt by his claws. But, perhaps it’d be better to sleep in here tonight.”
“I’m fine with that,” said Kunikida. “Anything to let him be happy.”

Day 2 (12/16): mistletoe
@dazaimultishipweek
Dazai knocked on the door. Supposedly, there was a party here tonight. He wouldn’t usually attend that kind of thing, but even Kunikida was attending. He could play a whole bunch of holiday-themed practical jokes. (And he really did enjoy his company. Not that it’s a crush or anything.)
“Come in,” Ranpo said from the other side. The doorway to the Agency swung open, and a green-leafed plant drifted down from the ceiling.
Is that… mistletoe?
Dazai blinked at Kunikida, the one that had opened the door, a few times. He averted his eyes to the ground. Beyond them he spotted the familiar shoes of Atsushi, Yosano, and Ranpo.
He stole a glance back at Kunikida, who looked awfully entranced by the doorknob.
“Is—are you—um…”
Ranpo snickered. “I knew you’d fall for such a petty trick. You just don’t have the great mind of someone like myself. And it’s bad luck if you don’t kiss,” he added.
With Ranpo being the one pointing this out, and everyone watching, it’d be more than obvious if there was a reason they wouldn’t follow the tradition. Dazai did kind of want to kiss Kunikida. Well, kind of a lot. He doesn’t know. Kunikida looks like the type to be a good kisser. And it’s not like it means anything.
His face flared with heat as he tilted his lips upward. His heart beat faster, and unlike usual, he couldn’t get it to slow down.
He could back out now. Bad luck followed him on a regular basis anyway.
Screw it.
It was almost like a perfect fit. Like their lips were meant for each other.
As he sensed Kunikida loosen up, Dazai tentatively kissed him harder. Like he really meant it.
And he did the unthinkable. Definitely just the spur of the moment. He licked Kunikida’s bottom lip.
And then something impossible occurred.
Just like that, Kunikida’s tongue swept into Dazai’s mouth like a sweet summer breeze.
Well, he seemed to be right about Kunikida being a good kisser.
His touch claimed everything it met, pulling them deeper, closer, closer still.
Just when he thought that this sudden moment of romance and love would never end, Kunikida finally began to pull back. Dazai grazed his tongue over Kunikida’s once more, and they finally broke the kiss.
“That was…”
The viewers cheered.
“About time,” Ranpo said. “You two’ve been flirting for so long but never acting on it.”
“I…” Kunikida blushed. “That wasn’t very much like me. I just—“
“You’re lying,” declared Ranpo.
This time, Yosano produced a sprig of mistletoe from her pocket. She tossed it at them.
“Again?”

Day 1 (12/15): ugly sweater | warmth | solstice
Scenario: “I don’t deserve this gift.”
“I don’t deserve this gift,” Kunikida groaned.
He squinted hatefully at the sweater Dazai held before him. The brunette simply smiled back, his eyes glittering with innocence.
“You mean to tell me this isn’t another hand pun, then?” He’d had more than enough of Dazai making fun of his handicap---see, now he’s doing it too. That’s exactly his point.
Dazai pouted, pursing his lips. “I watched two twenty-minute YouTube tutorials to try to learn how to make it. You insult me.”
Oh goodness. Now he was just making Kunikida feel bad. What was he supposed to do now? He couldn’t reject something hand-made.
Well… He guessed it is an UGLY sweater…
Oh goodness.
Beyond the wording on it, the sweater wasn’t that hideous. He could have done without the bells attached to the gingerbread man’s buttons, but other than that, he could probably grow to like it if he gave it a chance. The basic black base looked pretty warm, and the gingerbread man OTHER THAN ITS BROKEN ARMS was kind of cute.
But still. “Oh snap” with its arms broken off. That was just evil.
Though, in the back of his mind, he secretly liked even that part. It felt kind of good to have his situation made light. So…
“Fine, I’ll wear it.”
Dazai clapped with joy. Or perhaps as another tease. “I’ve got an equally awful one for myself, so don’t worry.”
He was really into the whole ugly sweater thing. It kind of worried Kunikida. He could only watch as Dazai produced what could only be described as organized chaos. It physically hurt to look at it.
“How… Why…”
“Isn’t it glorious?” Dazai grinned, hugging the explosion of neons to his chest. He pointed toward the text. “Stupidity Solstice. Thought you might like it after all the times I’ve made you deal with me.”
“It’s, well, it’s definitely ugly.”
“Exactly.” Dazai snapped and finger gunned. “So are we going to wear these to the event tonight?”
Oh yes. The dinner party. Kunikida shook his head, mildly amused despite the ridiculousness. “I thought it was cancelled?”
“Nope, just revised a bit. Tanizaki’s hosting now, and it’ll be more of a movie night than a dinner party. Sound good?”
“Depends on the move,” Kunikida said.
“Does it really matter, as long as I have an excuse to cuddle with you?” Dazai responded with a question.
How sweet. And he wasn’t being sarcastic with that thought. “I guess so.”
Dazai beamed again. Then, without warning, he swung forward and landed his lips atop Kunikida’s. “Great,” he murmured into his boyfriend’s lips.
Kunikida exhaled lightly through his nose. What a good reminder of why he loved this adorable idiot. Sand why he endured the puns. Softly, he kissed Dazai back.
Where’s the mistletoe?
