Adjusting to your new hairdo was certainly..something.
It was difficult adjusting, but overall you were doing pretty swell! Just..ignore the red eyebags under your eyes..shh..
Although all 'n all, you did have to get over it. You couldn't dwell on your new loss.
Especially after that lame excuse for power. Cutting your hair? Kicking you while you were already down–literally? Low blow.
You had questions upon questions, and you DEFINITELY did NOT want to go to mori.
You'd rather die than try to get answers out of that insolent slime of a man. So, you set out for a search to find your brother instead.
"Yo?" You peeked into his office, not bothering to knock as at this point, it should be a custom as a sibling to barge in..you think. I mean, you've only been a sibling for..what? Two? Three weeks? You lose track of time easily..should probably look into that.
But for now, your brother wasn't here and you didn't want to deal with the bodyguard's sneer towards you..so you left with a quick slam of the door which echoed down the corridor.
You next checked chuuya's office..nothing.
Mayhaps..he's out training that aktugawa kid? You heard some words about it but never delved deeper. (as you didn't care.)
So, you went to the usual place covered in dried blood and weapons, nada.
The basement? Nope! You practically trudged through nearly the whole base, soon falling over dramatically onto the floor as exhaustion overtook you in your now ashed determination.
Well..besides one place.
One. Place.
Your heels felt like they were stapled to the floor as you stood upon the daunting office. Mori's office. The very same office you didn't want to even take a BREATH inside of.
Albiet, you take a step forward and your hand resches out in what feels like slow motion toward the intimidating handle before you, sweat dripping on the back of your neck as the handle turned and the door swung open to reveal your brother who took a pause upon seeing you.
"Oh thank god!" You immediately jump to the side, covering your mouth to let out a relieved sigh that had your whole body melting while dazai side-eyed you for half a second.
"You look exhausted, the mafia seriously can't be THAT tiring to a lower level like you.." dazai quipped, closing the door shut behind him before mori could perk up and question why you were here.
"Kay. I'm exhausted because i was looking for you–" You straightened up, taking in a deep breath and opening your mouth to talk, until dazai cut you off.
"You're asking about the person from the shed?" Dazai began to walk, not sparing you a glance to see if you were following..as usual.
"Yeah. You know something about them. What?" You followed along despite your bitter judgement, turning your head to stare at your brother.
"Well, we don't know their name nor their actual appearance..we just know that they have an ability to clone themself and take the appearance of other people while doing so." He informed, twisting his wrist around as he talked as some form of habit.
"Annddd..how'd you figure that out?" You raised a brow at him. Sure, your brother is smart, but if this person is so careful then how could they be so careless as to having the mafia know about them?
How did they slip up??
"Their habits and behaviors. Everytime they..quote on quote.."die"..their body disintegrates. On top of that, we had a double agent. It wasn't that difficult." He shrugged, and your brow creased even more that it felt like you were getting a headache.
You understood..it's just..that's it?
"Can they really be as careless as to not check the background of said double agent?? Surely not, right?" You threw your arms up in the air in disbelief, your mind rummaging through every possibility you could reach.
"That's why ignorance is a blessing." He finally turned to you, the both of you stopping in front of an elevator and he watched in amusement as the cogs turned in your head.
You mulled over what he was implying, and it was something that crossed your mind..you just didn't know how it worked.
You stared at the ground now, the sound of the elevator opening not registering to you until your brother stepped inside and you quickly followed suit.
"Did they..were they not in the mafia at first?" You flick your gaze to him, a somewhat, and very unwelcome, feeling of nervousness pressing down on your back as you awaited his not needed approval.
"Precisely." His gaze drifted off to the buttons on the elevator and you felt a sense of pride at being correct.
"The woman had already been a part of the unknowns organization, we just tracked them down..knocked her out, injected her with amnesia and put a tracker with a speaker sewn into the collar of her shirt."
"How'd that work out?"
"Welll..the woman was already higher up the chain of command, she was a lot more trusted. We are still trying to gather information but we may need to take a much different route."
"But..what? I mean, i guess it doesn't matter when you have the ability to be anyone and anywhere.." you frowned, putting together puzzle pieces one by one.
Dazai soon reached over and placed a rather surprising and gentle hand on your head, which made you go rigid and stumble a little.
You stared wide at him, watching as his face stayed blank and expressionless. The elevator dinged, and out he walked, his hand removed from your head and placed back in the pocket of his pants.
You stared for a few seconds longer, then let out a frustrated scoff. More toward yourself.
𑣲.
Now, unfortunately. You'd have to meet with mori again. To be fully truthful, you'd rather be stabbed.
Although alas, he had called both you and your brother for some..uneeded wellness check. For whatever reason. It was more for dazai than you.
"I assume you've been training her, correct?" Mori asked with his head down and..nevermind i don't want to even narrate the man.
You and your brother both knew that the man before you knew dazai wasn't training you, sure, dazai never talked to mori about it..and you're pretty sure both you and the executive beside you silently deduced that mori just wanted to hear dazai admit it.
"I haven't." Dazai didn't sugar coat, try to apologize or any of that nonsense, he's had this charade with mori before and it won't be the last.
"Mmm..well! Starting tomorrow you should be getting right to that. Also–"
Dazai walked out the room before mori could finish, waving a hand with a 'sorry, but i have better things to tend to.' And leaving you alone in the silence that hung in the air after.
You wouldn't know if that was normal, but you didn't bother questioning it. I mean, you have only been here for so long.
Mori blinked a few times, then sighed solemnly as if dazai was some troublesome child before turning back to the papers before him.
"You're dismissed...i'll try again later when he loses this..attitude." mori waved you off hurriedly, and you couldn't help but narrow your eyes before gladly leaving.
You waltzed through the same corridors, a feeling of restlessness seeping through you as you passed by lower subordinates.
Nothing else was on your mind..beaides food..and a nice warm bath.
That was, until a gunshot echoed throughout the hall.
You froze in your spot for a few seconds as if to register whether you'd been shot or not..and after a few seconds of no signs of pain, you turn around to see a body on the ground.
Then, you turn your gaze up to a man being tackled down, the murder weapon dropping from the murderer and you could only stare with a twitch in your brow.
It's a mafia. People are gonna kill one another out of the blue. Even if that means it's you, and you heard someone gasp and dash a second or two before the gun fired.
But what reason? What could've possibly been the reason??
"What the hell is goin' on?!" A familiar voice yelled out, walking over to the scene of the crime and you watched as chuuya's gaze flicked between the tackled man, the other on the ground, you standing there and the gun.
"This man tried to kill [Name]!" An unknown rasped out, their voice strained after being given a knab in the stomach by said murderer being held down.
"Rather bold.." Chuuya trailed off. His attentionturning to the gun, then his gaze turned up to you, who shared the same thought as him.
This someone must've been sent or paid, because to go after someone as important as you in the mafia, is definitely a ballsy task.
"Don't kill him." Chuuya commanded, turning his attention to the question before him and trudging over to grab the man by the collar. The other men came to a stand and watched silently until chuuya's figure disappeared.
Once chuuya was gone, they silently looked toward you as a silent assurance to make sure you were alright, before going to the body and lifting it, cleaning the mess.
You blinked a few times to ground yourself, then rushed after chuuya.
The lingering shock weighed heavy as you ran, your body somewhat rigid from the attack on your life, but you needed answers now.
You soon arrived to what was called "the interrogation room" and your steps came to a slow when you saw chuuya standing outside gaurding the door.
"Why're you out here??" You stopped in front of chuuya, catching your breath and leaning fown to rest your hands on your knees.
"..don't need to see someone get tortured. Dazai's in there right now doing the heavy work anyway." The ginger informed, and you stood slightly ajar at chuuya's subtle confession..but you didn't care.
"Right..so i guess it's just a waiting game now." You huff, raising to stand up straight and ruffling your hair. Gaze turned to the ground as your mind went to the possibility of the murderer being a part of the unknowns organization.
Chuuya just simply nodded, his mind a swarm of his own thoughts. Specifically with the fact that, if that person hadn't swooped in to save you and risked their own life, you could've died right there and then.
Mostly worried about it, because of how bold of a move it was, mori needs you for..whatever reason besides your power, and, your careless nature.
Unlike dazai, your carelessness wasn't intentional, but he also wouldn't call it carefree. The thought of protection hadn't crossed your mind as a need. Why would you need it when your brother is an executive, and you played an important role in the mafia despite..
Wait. That's right, you didn't know.
You thought your importance only consisted of being the shadow of your brother and your ability.
The truth lingered over chuuya as his gaze flickered to the wall instead and his expression twisted into more of an uncomfortable and agitated one.
Around twenty minutes of muffled screams pass, a short silence, then out came your brother.
"He was affiliated with the organization." He confirmed to chuuya, then noticed you and watched as you rolled your eyes and basically stormed off.
"God, what's the point of being a powerful organization if you can't even control your underlings!" You rambled, muttering under your breath as fury overtook you. Most likely from your life being on the line, and not being able to be left alone.
Once you were gone, chuuya glanced toward dazai.
"Don't they need her? Why would they kill her?"
"I doubt it would've killed her. I looked back at the footage and where the gun was aimed wasn't toward anywhere vital..the person who jumped in just made themself vulnerable."
"Seriously?" Chuuya grumbled, "what happened to the man in there?"
"I killed him."
Sure, dazai killed him by accident. Although i don't think it would've mattered either way, he was going to die anyway.
